Ubbe grunts in anger at himself. How could he be so stupid? He calls her right away, apologizing for his stupidity as he's leaving the party, going back home to hug her and try to show her what a terrible mistake it was and how sorry he is.

Hvitserk freezes in place. A thousand curses leave his mouth as he runs back home to apologize. He doesn't even try to buy presents or anything fancy: he knows his words and his presence are the biggest and best gift she would want. He will spend the rest of the night and the next day pampering her to apologize for his mistake.

So, on the way back home, he calls some friends of his and prepares to arrive with a surprise serenade for her, singing under her bedroom balcony how much he loves her and how sorry he is for taking so long to realize his mistake.

Ivar can't pretend he's not mad at himself. And knowing fancy gifts like flowers or chocolates won't help him, it just makes things worse. But it's for her, so he feels the effort is worth it when he decides to come home with clean hands, standing in front of her with his head bowed, to say the words he most hates to hear coming out of his mouth.
