You Can't Fall

It's amazing how
We learn to do without
The things we thought we couldn't

I keep hitting myself
In all the places it hurts most
And I realize now-

I wanted us to fail
To burn so hot and quick
That we'd crash and fizzle instantly
I wanted it!

Please respect my silence-
Leave me alone.
I don't want to speak,
I don't want to think.
I want you to go.

"You're lost," you say. "I'm just
Looking for you."

Yes.
I'm lost.
Quit trying to find me, okay?

Found-
Something I am not.
Guess I'll just have to add that
To the list of things to be when I grow up.

But until then, leave me be
Because I wanted this
And knew it would come to this inevitably-

I wanted to see us fail
Burn so hot and quick
That we'd crash and fizzle instantly
I wanted it!

Thought I had fallen,
Thought I'd fallen hard and fast
A crash with no turning back
But the reality is

You can't fall
If you never really get off the ground
At all.

Stupid decisions
That only lead to bad thoughts
I can't look back on any of it
And see anything good.

It's amazing how
We learn to do without
The things we thought we couldn't
When we decide to simply shut them out

It's ironic how
You feel the impact of a fall
When you never even got off the ground
At all.

Thought I had fallen,
Thought I'd fallen hard and fast
A crash with no turning back
But the reality is

You can't fall
If you never really get off the ground
At all.
