I cuddled up with Bruce on the couch in his room, resting my head on his chest as we watched a movie. His breathing was slow and steady, the gentle rise and fall of his chest a soothing motion that made my eyelids feel heavy. His heartbeat was a wonderfully relaxing noise and I could feel myself begin to grow sleepy.
As if he knew what I was thinking, Bruce slipped a finger under my chin, lifting my face toward his.
"Tired?" he asked.
"Mhm," I said, stifling a yawn.
He kissed me on the forehead before kissing me on the nose and each cheek and the chin and my lips, a wonderful six pointed kiss that made my heart melt.
"Then I'll take you back to your room, I don't want you to stay up too late," he said, pulling me to my feet.
"Oh no we can just wait a few more--"
I cut myself off with a yawn and Bruce chuckled.
"Mhm, that's what I thought. You need to get some sleep. We're...we're telling him tomorrow, you know. You should be rested for that."
I nodded, taking a deep breath. "Yeah. After the show?"
He nodded, arms slipping around my waist as he pulled me against him.
"After the show."
I wasn't able to sleep well once I had safely snuck back to my own room. I was terrified of telling my brother tomorrow. He loved me, I knew he did, and he loved Bruce too, but I had heard what he had said clearly yesterday morning.
The show of course was amazing, and Eric seemed even more aggressive on the drums than usual, as if he was taking out his anger at what he might know about on the drums. I made my way backstage as soon as it ended, giving Eric a smile.
"You did great tonight!" I said.
My heart sank as I watched him struggle to return it.
"Oh, thanks."
"Did you want to grab dinner tonight?" I asked, unsure why I was even asking him all of a sudden.
He gave me a much more genuine smile and a quick hug.
"I'm sorry Y/N, I'm not...up to dinner, if that's alright. I'm gonna go to the hotel bar and get some drinks if you wanna join me there!" he said.
I nodded, hugging him back.
"That's fine! We can do dinner tomorrow night or something," I said.
I rode back to the hotel with him instead of with Bruce, desperate to get him as cheerful as possible before I broke the news to him. It was fun to sit with him at the hotel and just have some drinks and catch up, although he drank a lot more than I did. Finally, Bruce walked over, standing next to me, and I knew it was time. Rising to my feet, I took a deep breath and turned to Eric.
"Eric, Bruce...Bruce and I are dating," I said, putting a hand on his arm.
He didn't respond right away, just took a long sip of his drink before fixing Bruce with a glare.
"I told you not to date her. I told you she was off limits."
"I know but Eric I'm an adult! I can take care of myself, and Bruce is the sweetest, I've had a few boyfriends but I've never had one as sweet as he is, I've never have someone treat me so nicely and love me as much as he does!" I protested.
Eric didn't even seem to listen, just took another sup, still scowling furiously.
"How far did you go?" he asked.
"What?" I asked, but Bruce winced.
"She...asked to go all the way," he murmured, and Eric slammed down his glass on the bar counter.
"You SLEPT with my SISTER?!" he roared.
"Eric it was consensual! I asked him to, he made certain I was sure about it, I was the one who asked him to!" I said desperately.
Ignoring me, Eric jumped to his feet, getting up into Bruce's face.
"I told you! I told you to leave her alone!" he shouted.
"She's an adult! She's plenty old enough to make her own choices!" Bruce snapped.
"You bastard! I said to leave her alone! I said to keep your fucking hands off her! And you went and stuck your--!"
I grabbed his arm, trying to pull him back.
"Eric, please! Don't be mad at him! I'm not a baby anymore, I can look out for myself and make my own choices! Don't be mad!" I begged, but he shook me off.
"I don't want you getting your hands on her! I don't want you dragging her into this life and getting her hurt!"
"It's not your choice to make! It's her choice! Because she's an adult and so am I!" Bruce shouted back.
In response, Eric punched Bruce in the face.
"Eric!" I shrieked.
Bruce stumbled back, lip swelling, eyes furious.
"You little--"
Before they could fall into an all out brawl Gene seemed to appear out of nowhere, stepping between them.
"Alright, that's enough of this. Eric, you're quite drunk so we're going to go back to your room, alright? Bruce, why don't you go back to your room and get cleaned up?" he said in a firm voice.
Nodding, I took Bruce's hand, dragging him away from Eric and toward the elevators while Gene talked to Eric, hands on his shoulders as he did his best to calm him down.
