Chest heaving, I paced around restlessly, looking at my watch while rubbing my baby bump.
"Oh this is so unfair, he's going to be so upset," I murmured, feeling tears prick at my eyes.
But I couldn't deny it any longer, as my contractions were three minutes apart now, meaning it was time for me to call a cab and go to the hospital.
It didn't take long at all for me to get taken back to the labor and delivery room, being set up on a bed as doctors and nurses swarmed about.
Tears from more than just pain were in my eyes, as all I wanted was for my husband to be there, but he was across the country and in the middle of the show. An idea struck me and I turned to the nearest nurse.
"Oh w-wait! On the TV, please--"
I faltered, waiting until the contraction had passed before I spoke again.
"Kiss is playing a show in Los Angeles right now, could-could you put that on?"
"A Kiss concert?" one of the nurses asked in confusion.
"Yes! My husband is the lead guitarist and my brother is-is the drummer, I'd like to have them here at least in some way!" I snapped.
"Whatever helps you push out a baby," the nurse said with a shrug.
Any sharp retort I had was cut off by another contraction as I felt the baby pushing against me. One of the nurses turned on the TV, flipping through the channels until she found one with the concert. In spite of the pain, I smiled as I saw Bruce in the middle of a solo.
"Ohh I wish you were here," I murmured, sweat and tears running down my face as my chest heaved.
As the final note of Bruce's solo wailed through the arena, I let out a cry before at last the shrill crying of our baby echoed through the room.
"Congratulations, it's a girl!" the doctor said.
Still breathless, I glanced at the screen, seeing Bruce smiling at the camera, as if he knew and was smiling at me.
I accepted my daughter as they handed her to me, holding her against my chest, happy tears streaming down my cheeks.
Bruce POV
"This is fucking bullshit. The hell was Paul thinking, scheduling a show the week before my kid's supposed to be born?" I muttered, walking back to the dressing room.
"It's Paul, he doesn't care about anyone but himself," Eric said, frowning just as much.
"Ah, cut him some slack. He doesn't have kids, he doesn't know what it's like," Gene said, falling into step beside us.
"I mean neither do I!" Eric protested.
"True, but she's your sister. How'd she tell you anyway?" Gene asked.
I smiled, getting lost in the memory.
"And you're certain you want to do it like this?" I asked, sitting on the floor with Y/N as she carefully wrapped up the box.
"Positive," she said, kissing me on the cheek.
"Mm that's not the only thing that's positive," I mused, and she giggled, slipping her arms around my neck and giving me a long kiss.
"Oh shut up. Now come on, we need to go, he'll be upset if we're late for dinner. You know how hard he always works on the meals!"
Later that night, after dinner, I gave Y/N a pointed look and she nodded.
"Here, we've got an early Christmas gift for you," she said, handing Eric the small box.
"Oh? What's this?" he asked.
"Well you should probably open it to find out," I said, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her onto my lap.
My hand rubbed her on the stomach absentmindedly and she smiled up at me. I returned his smile, eyes soft as Eric began to unwrap the box. He lifted out the onesie, looking at it in confusion.
"Read it!" she said cheerfully.
"If you think I'm cute you should see my uncle," he said slowly.
"Bruce picked it out," she said and I nodded, kissing her on the cheek, holding her tightly on my lap.
There was a pause as Eric looked at the onesie before his eyes widened and he jerked his head up, staring at us.
"You're pregnant?" he whispered, and she nodded, unable to stop beaming.
There was another pause as he looked back at the onesie before looking at me, putting his hands on his hips.
"I thought I told you to keep your hands off my sister," he said with a grin.
"Well..." I said, shrugging.
Laughing, Eric ran over, wrapping us in a tight hug before lifting Y/N off her feet and spinning her around.
"Aw Y/N that's great! I'm so excited! I'm so, so excited!" he cried.
Y/N hugged him back, burying her face in his shoulder.
"So you're okay with it?" she asked.
He chuckled, shaking his head.
"Why wouldn't I be okay with it? Bruce is a good man, and if he knows what's good for him he'll take good care of you," he said, shooting me a glare.
I walked over, slipping my arms around her waist.
"Trust me, I've got no intention of doing anything other than taking very good care of her."
Before I could even begin to tell that to Gene, one of the roadies walked up to me.
"Your wife left a message," he said, handing me a piece of paper.
"Aw, that was sweet of her," I said to myself, unfolding the note and feeling my heart immediately plummet.
