The clapping of his bare feet against the wooden floor echoes off the high walls of his house. His heart races in his tiny chest, each thump drowning out the silence that wraps around him like a suffocating blanket. Tears stream down his cheeks as he runs down the endless corridor, panic fueling his speed.

He skids on the slick floor as he reaches the living room entrance, crashing down on all fours with a bone-jarring thud that reverberates through him. His bloodshot, obsidian eyes widen as they fall upon a long, sinister trail of dark fluid snaking across the floor.

"Okaasan?"

He peers into the living room, following the blood's disturbing path toward a dark, indistinct mass. A thick cloud obscures the moon, leaving him engulfed in shadows, and he can see nothing—something he wouldn't dare confess to his father.

He unfolds and steps tentatively inside the room. The floor creaks beneath him, a sound he would have found reassuring before, but not tonight. He falters when body parts start to materialize from the encroaching darkness.

"Okaasan?"

Moonlight pierces the gloom, revealing a hand smeared with blood, and long, raven hair cascading to a horrifying tableau: two bodies, one sprawled protectively over the other.

He collapses on the sticky ground, the sickening scent of iron clawing at his throat, and lets out a piercing scream that cuts through the night. His voice chokes off as he covers his head in his hands, images of his mother's lifeless eyes seared into his mind—eyes that had once held warmth now forever frozen in a desperate plea. His father, forever guarding her with his own still form.

He dares to peek through his trembling fingers, half-hoping the nightmare will have dissipated, that reality will reset itself. But a whimper catches in his throat as his gaze lands on the lifeless bodies once more.

"Niisan?"

Panic swells within him as he rises, feeling the sickening stickiness cling to him like a shroud. He fears what he might find in his brother's room, paralyzed by the weight of grief and horror, unable to tear his gaze away from his mother's face.

But a sudden movement at the front window jolts him into action. Adrenaline floods his veins as shadows flicker beyond the glass, snapping him back to survival mode. He inches toward the windowsill, heart thundering, his footing unstable as he stumbles closer. The moonlight forces him to squint, and then he sees it—a dark silhouette perched in the branches of a tree, an ominous figure watching.

His breath hitches, pulse racing, as two familiar crimson eyes lock onto his, glinting with a predatory hunger.

Sasuke gasps, his widened eyes fixed on the dark ceiling above him. The cool air fills his lungs as he tries to slow down his ragged breaths. His body trembles, drenched in a cold sweat that makes his shirt cling to him like a second skin.
