I'm not doing this to earn his love. I'm doing this because I care for him, regardless of what he thinks of me.

Sakura's words echo in Sasuke's mind like a haunting refrain every time he finds a quiet moment to himself. It's becoming more difficult to reconcile the deep devotion she expressed that day in the Land of Waves with her recent behaviour. He feels trapped between two distinct versions of Sakura—one that is fiercely loyal and brave, and another that feels distant, selfish, angry.

Sasuke always perceived Haruno Sakura as merely a member of his fan club, a girl whose sole ambition was to gain his attention and admiration. He believed her infatuation was driven by shallow interests—his looks, his prestigious last name, and his natural talent as a shinobi. His father often said that civilians would eagerly seek to marry into a clan like the Uchiha to elevate their own social standing. Thus, it seemed clear to Sasuke that her motivations were selfish.

But since their harrowing experience on the bridge, his perspective has begun to shift. He can't shake the notion that Sakura might truly care for him—not in the way he initially thought, with romantic inclinations or ulterior motives. She had risked her life for him. Who would gamble with their own safety only to climb the social ladder?

As Sasuke sits on the edge of the camp, he watches Sakura train with an intensity that both fascinates and frustrates him. The late afternoon sun filters through the branches overhead, casting dappled light across the clearing where they have been honing their skills. By accepting to share the Anbu's camp, Kakashi has allowed Team Seven to learn from other experienced shinobi, though Sasuke has yet to engage with any of the Anbu members. Kakashi's dedication to sharing his own techniques takes precedence, and Sasuke can't hide his eagerness to learn a new jutsu. To his surprise, he enjoys his sensei's company—a fact he would never openly admit, especially considering Kakashi's notoriously lazy demeanour.

While Sasuke trains with his sensei, his teammates have to learn from other shinobi. Naruto's initial jealousy over being dismissed in favour of Sasuke has gradually faded, replaced by an infectious enthusiasm to learn from Bear. Sasuke chuckles silently at the thought—Uzumaki Naruto, renowned for his impulsive nature, actually using strategy and tactics is a sight he never thought he would witness.

Sakura, on the other hand, has undergone a noticeable transformation since the beginning of the mission. Her first two evenings were spent training with Mole, who focused on moulding her flexibility and speed, and she absorbed every lesson like a sponge. Sasuke couldn't help but admire her tenacity and dedication, but then, something had shifted once she began training under Wolf.

Now, she spends her days learning the intricacies of weaponry with that terrible woman, whose approach is far less nurturing; she corrects Sakura's form with sharp precision, berating her when she falters. Rather than responding with the defensive attitude she once displayed, Sakura meets Wolf's harsh criticism with a fierce determination, pushing through every challenge. As Sasuke observes from a distance, he can't help but notice the strides she's made in her technique. Her throws are now sharper, more accurate—an uncharacteristic confidence radiates from her.

"What are we looking at, Sasuke?"

Kakashi's voice interrupts his contemplative state, pulling Sasuke back to reality. He glances over at his sensei, who leans casually against a tree, his signature orange book held nonchalantly in one hand. Sasuke shrugs, shifting his attention back to the clearing.
