Gentle—that's the word that arises in Sakura's mind when her eyes fall upon Sasuke. Not genius, not handsome, not even moody. It's an underlying gentleness that seems to envelop him, a demeanour that contrasts starkly with the personality he tries to portray. They have been seated together for what feels like an eternity, their knees brushing against each other with every slight movement. Yet, oddly enough, not once has he flinched or recoiled from the touch, an unspoken testament to a budding connection between them, both comforting and reassuring.

However, despite Sasuke's peaceful presence beside her, Sakura finds it difficult to relax completely. The lingering pain from her injuries serves as a reminder of her recent ordeal. Moreover, every time she closes her eyes, the ghastly memory of Zaku's hands on her bare stomach resurfaces, and it feels like she's still pinned under his weight—a torturous recollection that sends a shiver coursing down her spine. Each time she thinks of those moments, the suffocating memory becomes almost tangible, the warmth of his breath against her neck intertwining with reality. Her heartbeat accelerates, the tightness in her chest constricting her pathway to breathe. Yet whenever panic arises, Sasuke remains a steady anchor; he softly squeezes her knee, a silent gesture that brings calmness. The memory of his gentle fingers sliding through her short pink locks offers her solace, causing her heart to flutter with warmth. His silence, however, remains unbroken, his gaze steadfastly locked onto the crackling flames of the fire before them, as if seeking answers within its flickering dance.

Sakura contemplates her hair, the recent trimming no longer bothering her as much as it once might have. Similarly, the scars marring the smoothness of her skin have become a part of her reality. But her feelings for Sasuke run deeper than superficial appearances. If, one day, he were to return her affections, she hopes it would be for the entirety of who she is—scars and all. His words echo in her mind: the way he called her "the most capable Kunoichi." Intrigued, she glances at him.

"Sasuke-kun..." she begins, her voice trembling slightly as she meets his gaze. A wave of vulnerability washes over her when their eyes lock. The shadows clouding his thoughts seem heavy. Clearing her throat, she pushes forward, hoping to bridge the distance between them.

"Thank you for believing in my strength. Given what Zaku did to me, it's hard to see myself as anything more than a pathetic Kunoichi. Your faith means more than you know."

He acknowledges her with a nod, his eyes drifting back to the dancing flames. As Sakura studies his profile, nervously fiddling with her fingers in her lap, she feels an urgency to break the silence again.

"It truly means a lot, coming from you—after all, you are the best genin of our year. Well, the best at almost everything, really," she continues, biting her lip as the words tumble out. "Sometimes, I find myself wishing I could be more like you. Not in terms of your name or clan prestige, but I envy your drive. You pour so much energy and passion into everything you do. That's why I admire you so much."

She watches in amazement as the tips of Sasuke's ears flush with a faint pink hue, a reaction that spurs her on. Encouraged by this unexpected sign of warmth, she takes his hand gently in hers, her heart racing as she locks eyes with him more earnestly.

"I know there's something you're keeping to yourself," she says, her voice steady but filled with concern. "You can pretend to be tough, but the sadness in your eyes speaks volumes. I will respect your privacy, just as you respected mine. But please know that I'm here for you, no matter what you need."
