Chapter 18

Lydia's POV

The battle was over.

It seemed to have lasted only seconds, my heart was still pounding deep into my chest. The only thing in my mind was Cassandra.

I saw as they took her on board a carriage with other injured soldiers. She would be taken to Cair Paravel. All of the lands were free, and as far as anyone saw Ginia was just a memory.

My tail dissapeared as the sun peeked over the branches. I looked around seeing Ginians being stripped of there weapons and escorted off the field.

Lucy was healing a few minor injuries with her cordial. I wished I could help but I couldn't. I backed away and headed down to the beach.

I still couldn't think that Cassandra could die. It wasn't sinking in...

We'd saved Narnia, but at what cost?

Cassandra had saved me even though we'd been fighting for so long.

I walked down to the old Narnian camp, it was completely abandoned.

This camp was just a memory now...

I heard a crack and turned...nothing....?

I heard several more cracks, and I hurried to the sound, as it disappeared into the pine forest. It sounded like foot-steps.

Running out to a small clearing, crunchy leaves benath my feet, and pine trees surrounding it. I looked at the few boulders around it and heard more rustling.

"Hello? Show yourself." I said, my voice a little shaky.

I still felt fear from the battle, and alone in this forest wasn't helping..

The rustling suddenly stopped and someone stepped out of the cover.

I screamed, then stared at the woman, she was short, and had beautiful green eyes. She blinked at me, she looked young. But she also had an eerie look to her. She was creepy and bazaar...

"Who are...you?" I managed to say.

"I'm..." she started then looked off into the distance, "Cora"

I stared at her, half expecting her to start flying.

"I'm Cassandra's mother." she said.

I felt my heart sink, "But her mother is...dead and so is mine. I'm Cassandra's sister and King Franklin our father, well was...our father." I tried to explain.

Cora's hands tightened into fists and she started panting when I said my father's name.

"That is neither of your fathers'. Your not my blood daughter but I adopted you from a young mermaid I once knew, when I was living in Ginia...Cassandra isn't related to Franklin either." Cora said.

I tried to perceive everything, but it wasn't getting through very well as I mumbled, "What happened to you? You died of a disease when we were 5".

"I didn't die. It started after I married Cassandra's real father..."

"And that is..." I coaxed, getting annoyed by her wandering speech.

"Rilian." she choked, as if saying his name was killing her.
