🎵 No Vacation - Yam Yam

-

They met at the same hotel room again. This time she was only slightly less nervous and was slightly less afraid of being found dead the next morning but still there was so much that she didn't know about him.

Hi!

Hi.

It was nothing like last time, he didn't make a move right away, he just stood there by the door, he didn't come off as strong as last time, so which one was real, when did he put on an act?

Do you umh...do you want to drink some wine?

Sure, why not.

She wasn't sure why she said that. She hadn't drunk any alcohol for over a year now. It wasn't really intentional she just didn't like how easily she lost control over her emotions and actions when she was drunk. But a bit of wine wouldn't hurt, right? She needed something to calm her nerves anyways since this meetup seemed to be a very different one.

He poured them two glasses while she sat down on the bed. They clicked glasses and she took a sip but noticed that he wasn't drinking.

He was nervous about taking off his mask in front of her.

Oh...right.
Why don't you..
Why don't you just sit over there?

She pointed at the other side of the bed. They were now facing away from each other sitting on opposite sides of the bed in the most deafening silence.

They were both waiting for the other one to say something or make a move, to see what this night could be.

She just couldn't bear the silence anymore.

So uh.. what's your favorite bean?

He chuckled. God that laugh. She hadn't heard him laugh before but now she felt like she wanted to listen to it for hours. It was so different from his talking voice and that's what made it that much more sweet.

I dunno.
Probably black beans.
You?

I'm more of a butter bean kind of  gal myself.

She actually enjoyed this sitting arrangement because it made her anxiety settle.

You've never told me your name.

Right. She actually forgot that. She was so focused on not knowing his name that she forgot that she hadn't told him hers either.

It's Maya.
You?

Just call me Corpse.

All right edge lord.

She made him laugh again and there she knew she wanted to listen to him all night.

Hey Maya?

Her heart just melted hearing her name from him. Now she regretted not telling him earlier just so she could've heard it before.

Will you tell me now,
where are you from?

Well I was born in Switzerland but we moved around a lot when I was little.
I finished high school in Austria though so that's where I have most of my friends.

What about you?

I'm from here. I lived in California my whole life.
I have never really travelled either.

Never?
Wow. You should come to Europe with me then.
I'm a great guide.

As soon as the words left her mouth she felt embarrassed. They weren't really on "come visit me in Europe" terms yet.

Sorry.
I didn't mean it...
Well I..
We'll see.

Corpse felt his cheeks blush, she was so cute when she was rambling. Maya seemed just so genuine and kind, she made him feel safe and calm and that wasn't so easy to find.

It's okay.

They chatted more, mainly about California and how neither of them like it really and as they drunk glass after glass suddenly the whole bottle was gone.

I like the beach though.
I mean it's not a greek or italian seaside.
But it's nice.
I just don't have the time or means to go really.

I'll take you sometime then.

I'd love that.

Maya was honest, she didn't have to think about it for even a second. She felt safe with Corpse and would love to be at the beach with him, simple as that.

Do you feel homesick at all?

Oh yeah!
I really miss my cat you know...

Maya layed back on the bed with her feet dangling off the edge. She was definitely tipsy from just a few glasses, probably because she didn't drink at all for so long. She hadn't felt this comfortable around anyone since being in California and she was just so grateful to have an honest conversation with someone who was this nice and seemed genuinely interested in her.

I wish I had a cat.

After saying that Corpse also layed down on the bed now laying just an arms reach away from each other, both of them staring at the ceiling.

Why don't you?

It's complicated.

Okay...

She probably sounded frustrated because she was frustrated. She just didn't get it why he didn't open up to her the same way she did.

I'm afraid...
I'm afraid I'm gonna die sooner than a cat.

Oh...shit.
I'm sorry.

As Maya said that she sat up slightly leaning on her elbow to look at him. She didn't think about it, it was instinct to look at him to show empathy trough eye contact, even though she didn't exactly knew what he meant it sounded serious.

But right when she looked at Corpse she covered her eyes with her hands. Looking at him without his mask on felt forbidden.

Fuck!
I'm sorry about that too.

I didn't recognize you or anything I swear.
But also don't really know celebrities,
I'm really bad at that.

She felt so embarrassed she couldn't stop  rambling.

No it's okay.
I'm not really someone to be recognized anyways.

He chuckled as he spoke. She didn't really understand why of course.

Corpse also sat up on the bed, to be in front of her. He took Maya's hands in his and pulled them away from her eyes.

I'm also not much to look at either.

He laughed nervously.

Well that's not true.

So it was the loveliest smile that he was hiding under that mask all along.
