I walked up to the Deca Tower, a small smile on my face. Today, I'm finally going to show everyone what I've got. I may still be at a lower skill level, but that doesn't mean I can't better myself. Many inklings judge me because of my species and what they did in the past but, I want to show them that we've changed. We're not brainwashed soldiers anymore, far from it. Octolings are rather peaceful and shy, we're nothing like all those make-believe stories online. Maybe if everyone can give us a chance then we wouldn't be so scared of showing those rude inklings our true selves.

"Hey, are you sure it's a good idea to go in there?" My teammate asked.

I turn to him with a widened version of my previous smile.

"Yep! I'm sure everything will be just fine." I told him.

"I don't know, inklings are scary. Chances are that they'll treat you badly in there..."

"Not if I show them the true strength of an octoling!"

My teammate laughs at me for a moment. My team always tells me that I'm the female version of some guy named Goggles. I wouldn't know, considering I don't know who he is, but I digress. Gripping my Octo Shot, I raced into the Deca Tower, waving off to my teammate.

"I'll be back, promise!" I shouted.

"All right, come back safely!" My teammate warned.

I scoffed and put my hands on my hips.

"You worry too much."

Just as I said that the doors closed.

Mini Timeskip

My heart was pumping at thirty miles per hour. I'm going to be in my first match ever after moving here. I'm not a newbie, but I sure am a nervous wreck. Everyone who's going to watch is of the inkling species, not the octoling species. Everyone will be judging me, criticizing me, that's pretty scary. Even scarier than getting inspected by your platoon sergeant back home.

"All right, (Y/N) you've got this. Just keep calm and everything will be fine."

Someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around to see a confused inkling behind me. The other two seemed just as confused.

"Uh, are you an octoling?" The inkling asked.

"Why, yes I am!" I answered, enthusiastically.

He seemed surprised that I was so chipper, but smiled at me anyway.

"Oh, cool! I've never met an octoling in person before!"

Now, I don't know about you, but when someone expresses that I'm "cool," I've gotta boast. Flipping my (F/C) tentacles, I struck a hero-like pose and grinned, boastfully.

"Why, thank you. I am pretty cool." I chuckled.

The boy was about to say something else but then, the gate opened. The other two inklings on my team went into the teleporter. The last one turned to me, a big grin on his face.

"Let's have fun today, okay?" The inkling suggested.

I nodded the two of us walked into the teleporter together. For the first time, I felt accepted. I guess inklings weren't as bad as I initially thought.

The rest of the team and I had teleported onto our spawn point, which was colored (F/C) this time. Good, I don't have to complain about not being my favorite color today. I wonder if anyone has done that. The four of us rose from our spawn, shaking off any excess ink. The other team most likely did the same as well.
