I am a pretty serious person most of the time. Rarely am I ever seen smiling or showing any kind of emotion at all. Some people mock me because of my stone-faced persona, but it doesn't matter to me. After all, they can never match up to my perfect skill level as a slosher main. Any other weapon and I'd be done for in a second but not with sloshers. Sloshing is my specialty (heh, get it?), and so I will assert myself without having to trash talk like all the other show-offs. As I get closer to the Deca Tower, I hear some noises from the side of me. Curiousness taking over, I shimmy over to the place where the noises were coming from and start my favorite hobby. Eavesdropping. There were four inklings, two boys and two girls, all chatting with another group of four inklings. Once again, they have two boys and two girls. How utterly convenient, not to mention, very balanced. It seems that they were talking about an upcoming tournament.
"Has anyone ever heard about an inkling girl named, (Y/N)?" One of the boys asked.
One of the girls who was with the other three yellow-green inklings answered that question.
"I know who she is!" The girl said, "She goes to my school so I see her every day."
"I bet she's good at everything. From what I've seen during her battles, she always knows what step to take."
I felt a little flustered by the compliment. Me, knowing what step to take during battle? That doesn't seem right at all. Those times were just luck-based calls, no thought was brought into it. Sometimes, I just get a feeling of what I need to do next. I continued to listen to the inklings' conversation.
"I heard she doesn't belong to a team, nor wants to be in a team."
"Doesn't that sound familiar?"
The male inkling in the Black Inky Rider coat got upset quickly by that comment. I'm guessing he didn't use to belong to a team until now.
"Hm, is someone watching us?"
I flinched and turned away as soon as one of them noticed my presence. I quickly walked away into the Deca Tower to join a random match, like I usually did. But my mind was still reeling from that earlier conversation. Why were those inklings talking about me? It's not like I'm that great, right? Oh well, I'm glad they're only talking about the good things and not the bad. That would be awful if they weren't. Out of that entire conversation though, my eyes were mainly focused on the blue squid with pilot goggles on his head. I wonder, what type of person is he? He seems to be the exact opposite of me, to be frank. Maybe one day I'll find out.
Later...
My teammates and I spawned in our base, as did our opponents, and we waited for the announcement to start inking. As I was waiting, I heard someone calling out to me from somewhere. I looked around until my eyes landed on a certain squid I saw earlier today. It was the blue inkling boy with the pilot goggles on his head. He was with the other pair of inklings he was talking with earlier as well. My dull (color) eyes landed on him with my mouth slightly agape. Why is he calling out to me? I wondered.
"Good luck, (Y/N)-chan! Do your best, okay?" He shouted out with an encouraging voice.
"How... cute," I said blankly.
It was nice to know that someone was supporting me, I guess. The crackle of the speaker reached my ears, so I prepared myself to get off the spawn point.
READY? GO!
Clenching my Explosher in hand, I started to ink my way to the center of the map. In case you were curious about what map we're playing on, it's Arowana Mall. This is one of my favorite maps in turf wars, not so much during ranked though. Something about rank just didn't make the map as fun as it would be in a turf war.
"Wow, with astonishing speed, (Y/N) has taken control of the central area!" The spectator commented.
I placed a sprinkler on top of the little spire and started inking my way into the enemy's territory. Because of the Explosher's dominating range, which is impressive for a slosher to have, I'm able to ink as much turf as possible.
"Ah, watch out!" A teammate called out to me.
"Hm?" I turn around quickly to see what the fuss was all about.
A roller was coming right for me. Of course, I dodged and splatted them before they could even touch me.
"Thank you for the warning." I thanked my teammate.
"No problem."
Barely even a minute passed and my team already had 85% of the stage inked in our color. There was no way the other team could make a comeback. Especially since I've got my special weapon ready at the front.
"Oh, it looks like (Y/N) is going to use her special!" The spectator anticipated.
My tentacles shimmered as I activated the secret weapon that helped me win against so many opponents in the past. Bubble Blower. Sure, it was easy to stop but that easy way was also a great distraction.
SPECIAL WEAPON: BUBBLE BLOWER!
I swung the giant blower, making (color) colored bubbles spread everywhere. Our opponents panicked and started shooting them to defend themselves against the explosion that would claim their lives if hit.
"You should watch your back next time." I scolded.
I splatted one of my opponents immediately, as did my teammates.
"Ten more seconds until the results everyone! Can the Dark Orange team turn this around?"
What a dumb question. Of course, they can't turn it around. Not while we're here at nearly every side of the map, I scoffed at the spectator's idiotic question. We ended up getting into the opposite team's base, to which we started spawn camping until the time was up.
"Judd and Judd Jr, what are the results?"
The bar filled up and, surprise surprise, my team won against the Dark Orange team. I smiled a little at the victory, though it wasn't all that much of a surprise that we ended up winning. I told you that I'm unstoppable with a slosher. If I had any other weapon, we'd probably lose that round. After saying goodbye to my teammates, I head out of the tower to go grab a bite to eat.
"(Y/N), wait up!" Someone called out.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to face that same inkling boy in the audience. He had a giant grin on his face like he won a tournament or something. I wasn't going to be rude and brush him off so I decided to listen to whatever he had to say.
"You did great out there, I'm impressed!" He complimented.
"Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot to me." I thanked him.
"No problem!"
He then stretches out his hand in an attempt to give me a handshake. I simply ignore his friendly attitude and continued to stare at him with my usual poker face. He retracts his hands quickly after that.
"Guess you don't do handshakes, huh?"
"No, I don't. Now, what do you need from me?"
"Oh, I was just wondering, why don't you ever smile?"
The question kind of hit me hard for some reason. When was the last time I smiled like him? I asked myself. I kept trying to recall when I have ever been happy genuinely, but nothing came to mind. Was I never happy, even as a kid? The boy noticed my change in attitude and hugged me. A (color) blush spreads across my face like wildfire as I ponder what to do about this. Do I hug him back or...?
"It's okay, (Y/N)-chan, you'll find true happiness one day. I just know you will!"
"U-Um, thanks I guess?" I didn't know what else to say to him.
The boy pulls back and lends his hand out again to me.
"My name's Goggles, by the way. It's great to finally meet you, (Y/N)-chan!"
"Ha..." I slightly smiled.
I take Goggles' hand, giving it a small, tight grip.
"It's nice to meet you too, Goggles."
