Mom took me inside the house and made me sit on the couch.

"I have come up with a decision, y/n. I would like you to know about it." She started.

"Okay..." I blurted.

"Well... I gave it a thought and understood that whatever you are trying to make me understand is nothing but the truth. I've been dwelling on my past only to get hurt by my own feelings. If he had loved me much as I did, he wouldn't have left me in the first place. So the only way to heal me is to find happiness for my self." She spoke her heart out.

"Gosh! At last, you did realise." I was rather insolent.

"I'm willing to do anything to bring back that smile on your face, y/n. I'll spend more time with you. Let's start it all brand new."

"Mom! I want you to have a life for yourself. I've grown enough to take care of myself. All I want for you is to be happy and forget that man."

She just smiled at me. "I will. But on one condition. Don't ask me to find love again. I still think I'm still not ready to welcome someone new into my heart."

"I'm so happy for you, mom. Thanks for considering my opinions." I gave her a tight hug. Tears of joy made their way out of my eyes instantly.

"No more crying, dear. It's a fresh start for you and me." Mom wiped away my tears.

Later, she removed her wedding ring from her finger and discarded it into the dustbin. "It only belongs here now."

After having a good supper out in a diner, mom and I shared the bed for the night. I had the most peaceful sleep that night.

It was Monday morning again, meaning I had to head back to my routine life. Surprisingly, mom was still sleeping next to me. Usually, she'd be at work at this time.

"Mom!" I shake her up. She squirmed under the sheets, her eyes squinted by the bright light from the window.

"What time is it, darling?" Mom questioned me. I told her that it was pretty much late for work. "Doesn't matter anyway. I don't have a morning shift today, although I might have to rush to the hospital if there's an emergency."

"Typical life of a doctor." I sighed. "One of the many reasons why I didn't want to be a doctor. It's a noble profession yet the most hectic."

"I'll drop you off at university. Get ready soon if you don't want to end up being punished for reaching the class late." Mom got up from the bed.

"I have my friends to cover up for me." I laughed.

"I should probably bribe your friends with my cupcakes so that they would listen to me and not you." She chuckled.

"Mom!" I whined. "That's totally unfair. Just because they love your cupcakes, it doesn't mean you can use it to go against your own daughter."

"You better hurry up then." She pulled me from the bed. Sooner, she pushed me out of her room. I pretended as if I was about to trip and fall. But she didn't even mind.

Thirty minutes later, I was having bacon and toast for breakfast with my mom. Once done, we hopped into the car and drove straight to the university. Mom played some Coldplay and 5 seconds of summer. I was familiar with most of the songs. Therefore, I sang along with the music that was playing in the car. It felt so good to enjoy a Monday morning with my mom.
