Jacob walked inside the mall. He glanced around the fountain in the middle and smiled when he saw Kevin already waiting beside it.
He tapped Kevin on the shoulder. The two walked around the mall and stopped at a café just outside it.
"So what is that?" Kevin asked as they sat down.
"Oh. It's banana muffins. I know you like sourdough so it's for you." Jacob said, pushing it across the table.
"Sweet. Thanks! But what's the occasion?" Kevin said, eyes lighting up at the treat.
"I just got them at work."
"Don't you want to keep some for yourself? These look pretty good."
"Nah."
Jacob averted eye contact as he rubbed the side of his arms. He never liked sourdough or banana muffins. He just pretended to cause Kevin loved them. Just like he was pretending to care for someone.
"Thanks, Jacob. You always know what I want." Kevin said, grinning at him.
"Of course, I do. We've been high school friends." Jacob smiled.
After a short while, Kevin excused himself first. Again. Jacob waved at him with a sweet bitter smile as he left.
He sank back into his seat, circling the rim of his coffee cup. His thoughts strayed back to the past.
Jacob hadn't been in contact with Kevin since they finished high school. He had tried to meet up with the other but always failed to come up with a reason other than a reunion. So he held onto whatever he could and got him a date.
A date he didn't expect would go well.
He had never expected Chanhee and Kevin to get together. Chanhee never seemed to be attached to anyone else. He knew why Chanhee always failed to get a boyfriend.
It's because he tends to be overly immersed in his books and is very shy. He never thought that man to actually capture Kevin's heart.
"Well, I have no one to blame but me." He muttered.
Maybe that's why he hated Chanhee even more. Chanhee would always pretend to be weak and fragile but always succeeds while Jacob had to try hard to get the spotlight.
Ever since they met in college, Jacob though befriending with the quiet guy in class would better his reputation. It did but Chanhee got more popular than him. Plans always seemed to backfire when it involved Chanhee.
For Jacob, the only reason he was being kind to people was because he saw potential in them. The potential to be used by him.
The next day, Eric looked at the signboard thoughtfully. He had his hands on his hips and acted pompous. He was proud of himself.
Juyeon had let him go alone to Anewz Media to collect information about Yunho. Eric almost shed tears out of joy when Juyeon gave him permission, much to Sunwoo's annoyance.
He walked through the door and up to the receptionist. He out on a serious expression as he whipped out his badge.
"Detective Eric Sohn on duty. I'm here to investigate a case."
The receptionist eyed him up and down then at the badge. She gave Eric a suspicious look but picked up the telephone. She made a call to someone as Eric waited.
