"What is it you wanted to tell me?" My dad asked as he gave me a bottle of water. "Hey, do you wanna sit down?" I said softly and he sighed as he moved over and sat in the chair opposite me.
I swished the water in the bottle around before sighing.
"I got a job offer," I lied. His face lit up as he clapped his hands. "That's great, Ny!" He asked and I sighed. "It's in California," I said and his face faltered slightly.
If I being honest, I have no idea where I'm going. All I know is that I'm following Mason and he hasn't exactly told me his plans yet.
"Oh, so uh when are you leaving?" He asked softly. "Later today actually. I came to say goodbye," I mumbled and he looked at me with a sad smile.
"Well you look disappointed," He said and I looked up at him. "Well I'm leaving. I mean you'll be here alone-"
"With Melinda," He corrected and I rolled my eyes. "Same difference," I grumbled and he smiled. "But you'll still be here without me. A-And I won't be with you," I said as I tried not to cry. I really wish I didn't have to lie to my dad but I can't risk his safety.
It's not worth any satisfaction that River may have.
"You've spent the last 3 years being as hard as stone. You're not allowed to get all sappy just cause you're growing up and moving on with life," He warned as he pointed to me and I laughed as I almost choked on my tears.
"I'll miss you dad," I mumbled and he got up and opened his arms for a hug. "I'll miss you too sweetheart," He mumbled and I sighed in his arms. "What about River? How'd he take it?" He asked as he pulled away and I swallowed the rising bile in my throat at the sound of his name.
"He-uhh wasn't really happy with it. We sort of broke up," I said as I looked down at my feet and pulled me in for another hug.
"You okay?" He asked and I nodded. "I-I'm good I just- I'll be okay." I assured him and he nodded. "You deserve a clean break anyways," He teased and I smiled.
"Well I really gotta finish packing so I'll call you after I land," I said as I let go of him and he nodded. "Stay safe, and if you need anything-"
"I'll call you," I finished for him and he nodded. "You call me," He repeated as I opened the door and walked out towards River's jeep.
I turned around and waved one last time and he blew me a kiss as I climbed into the car.
He walked back into the house and I watched as the door shut behind him.
I wish I didn't have to leave.
Why am I running away?
I hate that I have to do this. I hate having to leave, my family and friends and the life I've known here.
I hate him.
My hands gripped on the steering wheel as I drove into the main road.
I hope he finds my house. I hope that I see him again before I leave, so I can put a bullet in his head.
Not his chest though.
I could never kill him.
No matter how much I want to.
