"Are you serious?" I asked as I took the blindfold and he nodded."You seem very excited about this." I teased and he looked at his shoes briefly with a smile on his face. "Just put it on." He pushed and I sighed and put it on.
"Okay, I'll guide you." He said as he held onto me and locked the car. We slowly headed up to the front of the house and he unlocked the door as we both walked in.
"Stay here." He said and I stood still as I heard his retreating footsteps. "Okay! You can look now!" He called out and I unfastened the blindfold and gasped.
White fairy lights hung from the ceiling and rose petals littered the tiled floors. I locked the door behind me and took off my shoes as I pushed apart two long curtain-like strings of the fairy lights and stepped through.
The entire sitting room was decorated with red and white balloons, stacks of pizza boxes on the kitchen counter and little treats of cakes and brownies and fruits.
"This is so beautiful." I mumbled in awe as I took in everything around me. "Do you like it?" He asked as he emerged out of my room, carrying a bouquet of roses. "I love it." I sighed as he approached me.
"Nyah Maria Stevens," He began and my mouth opened.
"Who the hell told you my middle name?" I asked as I folded my arms. "I have connections baby." He teased and I rolled my eyes playfully.
"You entered my life, in the best way possible. You lifted me up and helped me become a better person. Even though I have given you multiple reasons to walk away from me, you never did. Each part of you is perfect and strengthens me every day."
"The colour red," he said as he took out a red rose from the bouquet in his hand and gave it to me. "Is for your fire, your ambition, and your drive that inspires me to achieve dreams I never thought I'd have; the dream to be with you forever."
My heart is literally melting.
"Yellow," He took out a yellow rose and I take it from him as I listened to his words. "Even though it's not the first impression people get from you, your happiness makes me happy. It makes me want to make sure you're always happy."
"Blue," He took out a blue rose and I sighed as I listened to his heartfelt speech.
"Which represents your sensitivity, which isn't a bad thing. It just means you have feelings and you care about others," I didn't even realise I lowered my head to look at the roses in my hands.
"Being sensitive doesn't make you weak, it makes you human." He said softly as he lifted up my head to look at him and I smiled.
"Orange," He grinned as he pulls out an orange rose and I smiled widely. "No way, how did you get an orange rose? That's so cool." I said to myself as he handed it to me.
"Represents your need for action, which is pretty much every day with you. It was the first thing that attracted me to you. Your need for adventure is what gets me up in the morning because every day there's something new to do with you."
"Even if it involves us nearly dying?" I teased and he looked down at his feet momentarily. "That will never happen again." He promised.
"Purple," he pulled out the purple rose, leaving one more in his hand. "this rose is a symbol of how unique you are. You are very different from the people you surround yourself with, but you are also an inspiration to them all. Every part of you that I've just mentioned is what builds your character and each part is also seen within each of your friends. They learn from you and are inspired by you and your dreams."
I might just let him take me right here if he doesn't stop talking...
"And finally, White," Instead of handing me the rose, he walked behind me and I turned around and gasped as he brought a bouquet of white roses.
"These flowers symbolise my love. My love for you and for every part of you too. I love you, Nyah Stevens."
Oh my God.
"I love you so much and I'm sorry it took me so long to realise, but I have. I've put my heart out on the line, I'm just hoping you don't crush it," He sighed as he looked away from me and I was too focused on what he said as I stared into his eyes.
"Nyah, will you be my girlfriend?"
I've kind of forgotten how to speak.
He smiled as my mouth opened and closed, with no noise coming out.
He handed me the bouquet and I looked down at all the roses in my hand.
"I'll take your silence as a yes?" He asked and I nodded rapidly. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he held me tight. "Thank you." I whispered and he looked down at me and locked his lips onto mine.
This feeling of excitement has always been there, but it's been replaced by something new.
Dangerous but exciting, nervousness but confidence, an old feeling, with a twist of something new.
Love.
