Minx's POV"DEVIN!!" The man slid into the kitchen with his mismatched socks and awkwardly stumbled against the wall while his legs wobbled. "Do you have everything?"
Devin had been sleeping on my couch the past two nights. Spring break was only 2 days away, and so far he hasn't been able to find much on the matter. Our routine had become simple and efficient, both he and I forming a friendship despite recent occurrences. I would wake up, go through my closet, and then finish getting ready in the bathroom. Then I would go wake Devin up and gather a few nutrition bars while he gets ready. We make sure the other is on time to their classes, and when he doesn't have a class, he goes back to my apartment and continues his research. When night time comes we sit down and he goes over everything he found that day, which, lately, hadn't been much.
"Wha-? Oh, yeah.. yeah. I'm good. You ready?" I nodded and we walked out. I made sure to lock the door; then we continued on our walk.
"So, why are we having to go to this mysterious location exactly?" I was beyond confused. When I went to wake him up this morning I found his scrambling around the living room in a rush. I tried asking if something was wrong, but he brushed me off and said we needed to go somewhere. Albeit reluctantly, I agreed. There, now we're all caught up.
He looked at me from the corner of his eye and sighed. "Magic comes from nature. That's where most witches get their power from, and that's where we'll be getting yours from as well."
"Oh.. well, as long as it's temporary." I didn't wait to see nor hear his response and eagerly skipped away from him.
"WRONG WAY!" He snickered, letting another silent sigh out.
I walked quietly the rest of the way, watching him navigate his way through the streets until we came upon a wooded area. "God, you're going to snip my fingers off and eat them in front of me, aren't you?" I looked at him, panicked, while he giggled.
"Depends if I get peckish or not, sweetheart." I didn't like the nickname, but let it pass as he kept walking.
I kicked the dirt and looked at my surroundings. Hundreds of trees surrounded us, and some rustling could be heard coming from the forest around us. Birds sang their melodies while we trudged through the serene space. "How much longer, Devin? My legs are going to detach from my body..."
I never finished my sentence, instead opting for an awe-struck, open-mouthed look. We were standing in a clearing filled with flowers and a small hill. I didn't even know this part of California had flowers..
"Gorgeous, isn't it?" He nudged my shoulder and we sat down. "I found it a couple years ago. It always smells pure.. I don't know how to describe it."
I nodded in agreement and plucked some flowers, slowly but surely twisting them into a crown. "So, what do you have, Popeye?"
He rolled his eyes and pulled out a big, tattered book. It looked like it had herpes, if you asked me. "I found a promising spell. It's supposed to give the designated person magical abilities such as that in which normal witches have. There's a good chance it could kill you if not done correctly or you can't handle the magic, but we should just ignore that part."
