Marinette sat down, her hands fumbling for the right mechanisms. She wasn't an inventor of any sort and was never was good around contraptions. Her computer kept crashing and sending her to other web pages whenever she was on it, it had caused her to think she was cursed with technology, it didn't help that her kwami enjoyed messing around with it.
Well, used to. Before she had to give her up.
She did manage to open the watch but it was probably god finally having mercy on her after so many mishaps not only with technology but also whenever she was under pressure.
Marinette tinkered away, attempting to turn the gears with her fingers, trying to find another dial or button as Luka bent down next to her, observing.
"What's the plan now that you got it open?" He asked.
Marinette stopped for a second before turning to him to explain.
"In the events of Time Tagger, Bunnyx in the future had somehow sent a message to herself in the past back where she wasn't a superhero yet. I know that sounds confusing when I say it out loud... But the point is that her past self saw the message in her watch and had come to us, the message was a code to where we could find her."
"Are you saying-"
"I'm going to attempt to send a message similar to the one Bunnyx sent,"
"Who will receive it?"
"I honestly don't know, but it's the best plan we have so far."
Luka fell silent in thought, Marinette took this as a signal that their conversation was over so she reverted her focus onto the watch, the complexity of the small device suddenly weighing on her. The gears made no sense to her, it could be that she had somehow put something out of place and it wouldn't work.
She ignored that thought, Luka had faith in her, and she was not going to stop, it was worth trying with some possibility of getting out of this situation instead of giving up and getting no chance of ever getting out.
"Wouldn't it work if I just said the activation words but never actually use the power of the rabbit? Perhaps the watch can only send a message while it's activated?" Marinette pondered out loud, turning to Luka.
He shook his head, "I tried to activate it using the transformation words but it wouldn't work."
"What if it didn't work for you because you never were a keeper of it before. You see, I was able to wear it before without using the powers when I had to defeat a supervillain. But I was wearing other miraculous then, so I wouldn't be sure..." As she progressed with her train of thought, she suddenly started to feel more and more unsure.
"It's worth trying isn't it?"
Marinette snapped her head up to him in surprise, meeting his eyes. "What's the worst that could happen right?" He gave her a small smile but Marinette could sense a hint of sadness behind it, after experiencing some of the worst things a child could experience.
She placed an arm on his shoulder and cracked an assuring smile, "I will try Luka, thank you for having faith in me." Before she could see his response, she turned away from him and tied the watch string around her waist.
A faint blue light flickered above her and a familiar kwami appeared.
Fluff's squeaky voice started to ring in Marinette's ear. "What time was it yesterday? Is it tomorrow alrea-"
"We have no time for your riddles Fluff, I have to transform." Marinette opened her mouth to say the transformation words but Fluff interrupted.
"I suppose that if you are certainly out of time, you would mind sparing even one second to feed me carrots?"
Marinette blinked, "Well as you can see, we're trapped in the Burrow and uh, there's nothing else except for me and Luka..."
Fluff started flying around the area, suddenly realising where she was and let out a wail. "But if you don't feed me, the miraculous won't reach its full potential? And you can't even time travel out of here because you are not a part of the Kubdel family line..."
"I know all of that Fluff, but I'm not going to time travel us out of here,"
"Then what-"
"Clockwise!"
Marinette said the transformation words before Fluff would go onto another rant and let the blue light consume her.
Not bothering to take in the costume she was wearing, she unwrapped the watch from around her waist and stalked over to Luka.
"I've got the watch now so let's hope that it'll work,"
Before Luka could respond, she felt her head go light and her legs starting to wobble and give way. She reached out for Luka's shoulder and gripped tightly, not wanting for yet another incident in which she fell ill stop them.
"Marinette? Your costume is flickering-"
Marinette tried to get ahold of herself and ignored her aching muscles which weighed her down. "This is what Fluff warned me about as she didn't get the energy she needed, not only that but I'm not a part of the heritage the miraculous is passed down from."
She felt her eyelids drooping down and her head rolling back, Marinette unable to stop it. Before she could completely collapse, Luka grabbed her shoulders and carefully set her down so that she was on her knees.
"Maybe you should detransform and rest before continuing?" Luka suggested, sitting next to her, with his arms out in case she would fall face flat onto the ground.
Marinette waved him off, "No, we need to get this over and done with, plus the more time that passes, the more tired Fluff will get."
Luka pressed his lips together and looked at her in concern but didn't protest when she started turning the dial on the watch.
Just as it had done before, the dial clicked and the watch snapped open. But instead of revealing the gears she was looking at previously, she was looking at a figure holding a clock. Almost causing her to drop the watch, a voice boomed from the small device, "No new messages."
Marinette smiled, the watch reminding her of her yoyo back when she had her miraculous.
She pressed a button on the hem of the maiden's dress and the clock she was holding clicked open, revealing the clock's face and a voice spoke, "Please speak your message." And a beep rang through the watch, signalling that it was time for her to say something.
Marinette turned her head onto her side, where Luka was sitting. He gave her a small nod and she finally spoke the words that would get them out of the Burrow.
"Hello, whoever receives this message, please come immediately, we are two people stuck in the Burrow and can't leave to return to our timelines. We lost our guide due to her fading away so assuming that happened to her, with more time that passes, more things could get altered, so please, hurry." The silence rang through the Burrow after Marinette finished and the watch spoke once more.
"Message transferred."
