Jake's POV
"Let's go!" Everyone repeated.

Rick staggered behind, looking at Jenner. "There's your chance, take it." Jenner told him.

"I'm grateful." He told him.

"Yeah, thank's to you, we have a chance." I told Jenner

"The day will come when you won't be grateful, when you don't have a chance." He shook our hands and I ran to the shutters. Rick stayed behind as he whispered something into Rick's ear. Then he came running up.

"What was that about?" I asked him as we kept going.

"Nothing." He answered.

"Let's go! C'mon!" T-dog said to Jacqui.

"No, I'm stayin'! Um, I'm staying sweetie." She told him.

"That's insane!" He yelled at her.

"No, it's completely sane, for the first time in a long time. I'm not ending up like Jim. No time to argue. No point. Now if you want to get out, get out! Get out!" She told him.

"Let's go, bud." I grabbed his arm as he staggered, looking at Jacqui.

Then I noticed something. Where was Amy? I looked back to see her standing near Jenner.

"I'm staying too." She said. Just then my heart dropped and everything seemed to stop.

"Jake! You comin'?" Shane yelled.

"Yeah! Go on, I'll be out." I answered. I handed Tommy to Rick so I knew he would be okay.

I walked over to Amy. "You can't do this, I can't lose you." I told her.

"You're strong." She caressed my face and I held onto her hand, never breaking eye contact. "You can do this."

"AMY! C'MON!" Andrea yelled.

"Andrea! Go! I got this!" I told her and she stormed out.

I went to a chair and sat down.

"What are you doing?" She asked me.

"I'm staying with you."

"What about Tommy, he needs his father."

"He needs his mother too."

"Jake."

"Amy, you can't just do that, make someone love you like crazy and volunteer to die. You stay, I stay."

"Fuck! Why do you do this, Jake?" She grabbed my hand, we grabbed our bags, and made a run for the door after we heard a big explosion and shattering glass. One of the windows had been blown out. The rest of the group was well ahead of the two of us as we ran outside towards the vehicles. The others had reached their vehicles and Amy and I hadn't yet.

Rick looked down to his left arm. "GET DOWN!" He yelled at us.

I grabbed her arm and pulled her down behind a barricade of sand bags and I laid on top of her, making sure she didn't get hurt if anything decided to burst out of the explosion with the flames.

*BOOM!*

The loud explosion followed by many little explosions went off and left my ears ringing. We ran towards the RV since T-dog took my spot in the truck.

We ran in and went to hug Tommy.

"Hell no." Andrea said. "Just about four minutes ago, you two were ready to leave him with me for as long as him and I could survive. You don't have the right to him anymore."

"Andrea, he's our son. I remember pushing him out. Give me my child, now." Amy told her.

"Fine!" She yelled and got out of the RV to make her way to Shane's Jeep.

Amy and I didn't really seem to care as we pulled into a hug with Tommy.

"I'm sorry I almost left you guys. I guess it was an opportunity to leave all this pain." Amy sobbed.

"It's okay, just promise to never do it again." I told her.

"I promise."

We sat down on the bench inside of Dale's RV and Amy rested her head on my shoulder as I rested my head on hers and we just fell asleep as we wore off the adrenaline from what just happened.
