We were at the bus station, and almost everyone that needed to be present for the trip was there. All waiting for Sesinam.
She and I got out of Max's car, our bags in hand. She had asked that we picked her up from her place and we had done so.
"Thank you, Max" she thanked him and thanked Perry for being such an entertainment through the ride.
"Yeah, alright. Take care. If it's too late, you can rest at a nearby hotel. It's not safe to journey at night," Max advised. "And Raine, call me. Let me know whatever."
"Sure", I replied because I knew he was trying so hard to make things right. From taking me to the bank this week to make the deposit of the money, to allowing me on the trip. I was much grateful. But a part of me didn't want to show him that, yet.
Sesinam went to our murmuring colleagues to calm them down from their uncomfortable wait under the sun. She later went to get us the bus we were going to use for the trip.
"Don't come back with a different hair colour", Perry blurted, clearly out of a joke but Max made a stern face, firmly behind the words of Perry.
I waved them as they drove off. Walking straight to Petra who jumped on me immediately. What was with me and jumping these days? Either I was doing it or someone was.
"You smell like you have a boyfriend", she sang and I only chuckled.
"No."
"Not yet? Or no?"
I only laughed, unsure of my answer. I contemplated on whether or not to let her in on the previous things happening, but before I could speak out, a less-appealing bus parked in front of us, Sesinam and her best friend urging everyone to come in.
"Sesinam really? We paid money for this?" People murmured, refusing to get in.
"Hey hey! Next time bring more money. What you paid for is what you get."
But only I, Petra and Lois laughed because we had been expecting worse.
Sesinam shushed everyone, reminding them that she was in charge of transportation so no one else should have a contribution.
Eventually, everyone began filling into the bus, the boys obviously booking the backseat whiles the four of us stood in front waiting for the rest to come.
I was the first to notice Derrick's presence. The boys cheered him as he stepped in.
"Hey", he nodded to the four of us, looking especially at me. None of us responded. He moved to his seat amongst his boys.
"Are you okay?" Petra questioned and I responded in the affirmative.
The trip was uncomfortable as it could get. It was not because there were constant complaints from our rich spoilt colleagues concerning the bus not having an AC. Neither was it because of the rusty sound the car made, nor the nauseating smell of diesel.
But because Derrick and his friends couldn't stop hollering and laughing at only God-Knows-What!
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, embarrassed that I could probably be the laughing stock right now.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Petra who was sitting beside me, questioned for the umpteenth time. "You don't look-"
Her voice drowned with the sudden uproar of laughter from the boys again and I had the urge to turn around this time.
Derricks eyes caught mine instantly, making my heart leap out of fear. I darted away before I could notice if the other guys were probably looking in my direction and laughing.
