After hanging out in the streets for a long time, wondering what to do, we decide to stop at a cafe. Sitting across from each other, I place my hand on his under the dumbfounded gaze of the waitress, who finally decides to ask us what we want to drink. A coffee for one, a chocolate for the other. Minho intertwines our fingers and looks at me so gently that I could melt in place. There is a light wind but nothing that could disturb this moment. I see him grab his cup cautiously with his free hand and bring it to his lips. I detail each of his gestures, and admire each of his smiles. He chuckles lightly at my insistent gaze but doesn't care much, devouring me with his eyes too.
We don't talk a lot, we just enjoy the moment. I learn that Minho is an only child, I tell him that I have an older sister, and a brother, who left home to go to England to study, as the other one is in France. He makes me taste his chocolate, he grimaces at the smell of my coffee.
We share this so sweet moment, so delicate. The kind of moments you don't experience twice. The kind of moments that make us feel like ourselves and someone else at the same time. Each of my breaths takes forever, and each of my breaths would like to last longer.
I finally decide to break the silence.
- Minho, do you believe in love at first sight?
He chuckles at my silliness before shaking his head.
- Until then I didn't even believe in love, so neither did I.
He tilts his head to the side, urging me to continue by stroking my hand with his thumb.
- The only example of love I have is the one my parents maintain. But I don't even think they love each other, just endure each other. My mother isn't happy, she survives. And my father... I'm sure he collects mistresses. I always thought that I would be better off single for life, to live small relationships without scale...
A slight smile appears on my lips.
- I still don't believe in love at first sight, but you made me believe in love. So yes, our feelings are nascent, yes we still have a lot to learn from each other. No, I'm not sure we'll be spending the rest of our lives together. But Minho, I want to believe in us, believe in you. I want to entrust my heart to you.
He blushes, looking up at the sky to keep a tear from breaking through the barrier of his eyes, then meets my gaze again.
- I promise to take care of it, Changbin. I promise to cherish it as much as possible for me to cherish and even though I cannot erase all your pain, I promise you that I will do everything to make your memories happier than painful. I give you my heart, Changbin. I even give you everything I have if it can allow your eyes to regain that spark which, I am sure, illuminates your eyes wonderfully.
Without waiting any longer, I get up to place a brief kiss on his lips. I rest my forehead on his but he pulls me into a gentle embrace and I can't contain my tears any longer.
I love you, Lee Minho.
