Kyle hugged his pillow, the lingering warmth of her presence still comforting him. How he wished he could have remained with her throughout the night.

Following their enchanting evening, they had stealthily returned to the school before the curfew ended. Such an act would typically spell trouble, but not for a future Elven King like Kyle. At midnight, a vast magical barrier would activate, encircling the school to protect its students. But with Kyle's mastery over air, they effortlessly glided over the wall and into their dormitory unnoticed. Now, all he wanted was to surrender into sleep.

With a deep sigh, Kyle shut his eyes, gently succumbing to a peaceful slumber.

"OH MY CROWN!"

A piercing scream startled Kyle to awaken. As he scanned the room, his gaze froze on Daring, who was brandishing a sword, his expression etched with terror.

"Daring, what's goi—" Kyle's words were abruptly silenced as Daring thrust the sword to his throat.

"Identify yourself, you vile beast! Why do you have Kyle's voice? What have you done with him?" Daring demanded.

Bewilderment clouded Kyle's mind. They weren't the best of friends, but why did Daring perceive him as a beast, or worse, a monster? Kyle had always thought that the 'beast' role was reserved for him.

"Daring, calm down, it's me, Kyle. What's gotten into you?" he implored, exasperated.

There were so many things Kyle wanted to call him, but it was too early in the morning for this shit.

Especially with him...

Daring snatched a handheld mirror from his drawer and hurried back to Kyle, thrusting the reflection before his face. The sight in the mirror elicited a scream of sheer horror from Kyle.

"What the fuck happened to me?!"

The reflection had the same familiar face structure and mess of a hair, but there were a couple of things Kyle didn't recognize. His eyes gleamed a deep crimson, mirroring the hue of the blood coursing through his veins.

And those ears!

His ears were anything but ordinary. They were long, stretching halfway down to his shoulders, and exceptionally pointy as well.

"My, what big ears you have there, roomie," Daring laughed.

Kyle shot him a glare, clearly unamused by the remark. With a deep breath, he leapt from his bed and began pacing back and forth.

How was he going to explain this to everyone? He knows that he's an elf, but Kyle didn't expect the Storybook of Legends to go that far and change his overall appearance.

'It appears that your heritage may play a role, but it's the moon's cycle that will reveal your true nature.'

The realization dawned on Kyle that the enchanted full moon was approaching tomorrow night. It must be the reason why he looked like this.

"What are you going to do, Ky? You can't just look normal one day, then look like a deformed freak the next day!" Daring blurted.

"Thanks for those words of encouragement, Dare..."Kyle spat and snatched his green hat from the desk. Shoving Daring aside, he used the large mirror on the wall to tuck his newly sprouted ears under his hat.

"There! As long as I wear my hat, no one will ever know," Kyle sighed in relief.

Kyle saw Daring crossing his arms through the reflection of the mirror.

"That may be, but what about your eyes? Red is not a natural eye color."

He made a good point.

Kyle took another deep breath and closed his eyes, trying to steady his nerves. When he opened them, Daring's shocked expression met his gaze. A quick look in the mirror confirmed his relief. His eyes had returned to normal.

"As long as I can keep these huge signs hidden," Kyle remarked, gesturing to the ears concealed within his hat, "I should be okay."

Just as Mr. Badwolf had warned, the moon's cycle was awakening Kyle's true nature. But with the waning of the full moon, these troublesome traits should disappear. All Kyle had to do was be patient.

Right?
