Chapter 16

"Shawnie, get off the table! I have a patient coming up! go and roam around for awhile and do NOT cause any trouble, got it?" You instruct, while not paying attention to his puppy face since you were too busy cleaning up the mess Shawnie caused in your consultant room.

You have been bringing Shawnie to the hospital more often nowadays. Nobody minded since everyone was pretty busy in their work. As long as the news of you bringing someone to the workplace doesn't reach the ear of the director of the hospital, you were safe. The inspection takes place every two weeks, just to check on how the hospital is maintained, for which you are always careful. You knew very well how unprofessional it is, but you didn't see any harm in Shawnie roaming around the hospital while you attend your appointments. The man only comes during your breaks and as for now, he didn't cause any major problems other than making your room messy.

Shawnie does as you instruct as it has been a routine for him to leave your office, as soon as it was a time for another appointment. Usually, Shawnie just goes to Jimin's office when you are busy or go to Hoseok and Jin's room if he was found busy too.

Today was an exception though, Shawnie had been wandering around the department to department but all of the people he knew had an appointment or even surgery to attend. Shawnie knew what that meant, as you have taught him, if nobody was there to look after him, he should look after himself. Although, he tried exactly twice to do that and each time, he managed to cause some trouble.

His innocent mind was playing an imagery scene where he is enjoying a strawberry flavoured ice cream with choco chips sprinkled. He knew that he was hungry, so he followed the delicious scent that was coming from a cafe. Following the scent, he ends up reaching a cafeteria which was placed right next to the pediatric department.

Plastering a huge grin, he approaches the counter and observes all the flavoured pastries that were on display for his eyes. The lady present at the counter gives him a fake smile, "Hello sir! what can I get for you?"

Shawnie points down at the pastry cake that caught his eyes, without saying anything.

"Rude. You can speak right?" She annoyingly kisses her teeth and packs the cake. Shawnie's smile drops at the attitude, he knew she was being mean and he didn't really know what to say back. He mumbles your name as the lady continued being total offensive towards Shawnie who is nothing, but weak at heart.

She places the pack at the counter and says "It's £5.50 please."

As clueless he was, he grabs the pack and turns his heels to leave. The lady, who scoffed hard at Shawnie before starting to shout at him. "Excuse me! Mister, pay before you leave." Shawnie quickens his step as he didn't like the tone of it.

The lady begins to chase him, before harshly grabbing his upper arms and make him stop. Shawnie's heart abnormally starts to beat as sudden panic rises around his heart, tightly clenching it. The woman begins to spit harsh words along with few cuss word. Shawnie couldn't help but a tear suddenly escaped his eyes. He was totally frozen at the spot.

You, at that moment, were bidding your goodbye to your patient. The happy smile fades away as soon as you catch Shawnie's face. You were about to call him and tell him that he is now allowed to come to your room. But, instead, your tongue stopped midway of forming a word as you see Shawnie looking down. His adorable face was somewhat unhappy and defeated. Your eyes notice a lady shout at him as if he just killed her entire family.

HOW. DARE. SHE

Nobody, you repeat. nobody speaks like that to my Shawnie.

Before your thought could proceed out another angry thought, you appear in the middle of Shawnie and the lady, shielding him.
