July first. A seemingly normal day for a summer day away from school, right?
Right?
RIGHT?
Wrong.
Want to know why?
At that moment, three fifty-six in the lord forsaken evening, three boys who lived in three different locations with three different beliefs and three different upbringings were about to get the surprise of their life.
Huang Renjun, the boy who lived in the East, was the first of the three about to lose his goddamn mind.
"MOM! MOM! MOM!"
"What?! What's wrong Junnie?" Mrs Huang asked, rushing to where Renjun was, filled with worry as to why her youngest son was screaming as if he were in dire need of life saving.
"You will NEVER guess what I just got in the mail!" He exclaimed, jumping in glee and flapping around a piece of paper. "Wanna hear?!"
"Well don't keep me waiting! Tell me already!"
"I JUST GOT RECRUITED TO ATTEND THAT WEIRD SCHOOL!"
"NO WAY! REALLY?!"
"YES! Look Mom, here's the letter with the official seal!"
Mrs Huang examined the letter and with a tear of joy rolling down her cheek, she wrapped her arms around her son and kissed his cheek.
"I'm so happy for you. You'll definitely meet others like us and it'll be such a joy for you. You might even get yourself a nice girlfriend or boyfriend in the neighbouring village."
Renjun nodded in agreement, hugging his mother tightly. He was so excited and he hoped his two older brothers would get home quicker so he could tell them the good news as well. He just knew they'd be over the moon for him.
In the west, another boy was in a similar situation and he went by the name of Lee Jeno.
"No way! No fucking way!"
"Lee Jeno. Will you stop cursing? I will tell Mom on you," his brother, Taeyong, said glaring at him. "You're too young for that."
"Shut up. You have no clue what I have in my hands and if you knew, you would go CRAZY. This is a dream come true!"
"Don't keep the birthday boy waiting, tell me then."
Jeno decided that the birthday boy didn't deserve the news first and that telling his Mother would be first so that's what he did, running to her bedroom where she would definitely be reading.
"MOM! LOOK WHAT I GOT!
"Don't yell. It isn't necessary if I'm right here."
"NO MOM, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! LOOK! I GOT RECRUITED TO ATTEND THE SUSPICIOUS SCHOOL IN THE WOODS!"
"WHAT?! DON'T YOU DARE JOKE AROUND WITH ME! LET ME SEE!"
Mrs Lee quickly stood, dropping her book that she was reading and walked over to her son who held the piece of paper. She read it once, then twice and read it a third time just to make sure it was real and not some form of joke.
"No way," she whispered, covering her mouth with her hand. "Jeno, this is amazing."
"I know!"
Taeyong, who stood at the door, had his mouth hanging open with wide eyes. He couldn't believe it. Even though he had always wanted to go to that school, he was glad his brother could go and he felt a sense of pride in him knowing that at least one person from their family could attend the mysterious yet well respected school. After all, all the successful people had attended there which was what made it a goal for everyone to make their dreams come true.
