The morning came with grogginess Cassie hated. She was fighting her eyelids in an attempt to lift them and open her eyes to meet the blinding sunlight that burst into the room from the big transparent doors to the balcony of the room. It took her a long moment to wake up her senses before she felt the heaviness on her waist, caused by a sturdy arm that held her close to the body behind her.

Oh, no. She thought in her head.

Slowly and carefully not to wake him up, she circled his wrist with her fingers and tried to do her best not to wake him up by moving his arm away from her, to his side. To her dismay, it wasn't a successful try.

"You're leaving." It was more of a statement rather than a question, but it was enough to draw her attention and make her turn around to face his frowning face.

"Uh.." She trailed off, knowing it was the first time she ever sneaked out of bed after a night with him. "..I don't th.."

"You're regretting it." He noticed and mused as he leaned on his elbow while watching her grabbing his button-down shirt to put it on herself with no request for permission. Typical Cassie.

She sighed heavily, stopped to stand in front of the bed and looked at him apologetically. "Elijah, what the hell are we doing?"

"You tell me." He tilted his head to the side and squinted his eyes. "It appears our intentions aren't the same, so, for heaven's sake, Cassandra, will you tell me what do you want from me?"

The frustration and anger in his tone hurt her in every cell of her body, and even more knowing she has no idea what could she, or rather, what does she wants to answer.

At her silence, he sighed and stood to his feet as well before slowly approaching her. "I love you, that you already know. And I know you're confused and attempting to find your way again but I'm here. And I'm offering you my help, so tell me what I must do, and I will."

She smiled weakly and took a few steps closer to cup one of his cheeks, and plant a soft kiss on the other. She leaned closer to his ear and shut her eyes before whispering, "I'm sorry my mind is so fucked up. You truly deserve better."

"Cassand-" He tried to call after her whilst she was turning around and starting to tip-toe her way to the hallway, where she was so focused on leaving that she hadn't noticed running into someone.

"Brother, w-"

"Oh." Her lips parted in surprise as she met the sea-blue eyes of Klaus, who stared down at her half-naked posture walking out of Elijah's room. There was an intense and awkward silence between the three, and if it weren't such a delicate matter these days, it was probably the most humorous situation they had in a while.
