The salty tears that once ran down the pale cheeks were now dry and undetectable. The warmth of one skin against a cold one created an embracing contrast, one that brought tranquillity and peace. It was a much-needed touch after a few rough days of forced distance, as though it was a breath of fresh air that filled a desperate void that longed to be noticed for a while.

The tips of her fingernails moved around the bare chest ever-so-softly , slowly and gently enjoying the smoothness of the skin. She listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat with delight, allowing herself to sink into the feeling of contentment.

"I'm sorry."

"I've already told you you have nothing to be sorry for." He replied quietly as he took in the sweet scent of her hair.

"I kissed your brother in front of you." She mentioned with a heavy sigh. "If you were kissing someone else in my face, compelled or not, I would've kicked your ass."

He laughed quietly through his nose before planting a lingering kiss on the top of her head. "One of the reasons why I love you so much, I suppose."

They have been lying in bed together for hours, from the moment of their arrival in the compound till the sunrise. Most of the time they remained silent, only breaking it for an exchange of a few comments and her apologies, which came at least once an hour. He repeatedly dismissed her expressions of regret, saying she's not the one to blame and was the victim in this circumstance, which made sense and yet hard for her to even acknowledge the fact she was compelled. It was her fault.

"You have many works of art around the compound, right?" She asked all of a sudden, surprising him with the unexpected subject.

"Yes..?" He answered hesitantly, not sure where this conversation is going.

"What's your favorite one?" She asked simply.

"I'm not sure I understand." He chuckled and said, making her giggle and turn to lean on her elbows and look at him.

"There's so much I know about you and yet so much I don't. And besides, I'm sure you have great, interesting stories from the past. So - favorite masterpiece?" She explained indifferently as his smile widened with disbelief. Sometimes he really wished he had known how does her head works.

"Uh.." He scratched the bristles of his chin thoughtfully as he went over the memories of his past in his head. "Have you seen the painting of the shore near a castle in the library?"
