30 - Grandmother

Emily turns over in bed on the very bright Sunday morning,  she remembers not closing the curtains last night and greatly regrets it. She flops her arm over expecting it to land over JJ's small body only she feels her arm fall onto the empty and cold bed. She opens her eyes, still blinded by they light and looks around the room to try to find JJ. She hears little footsteps outside the door and gets up to see who she expected was Henry outside. But by the time she gets there the hallway is empty and Henry's room is completely empty, along with Kai's.  She walks back to her room and checks her phone, 8:03. JJ's an early riser but Emily's never seen her up before 8 on a Sunday. She makes her way down the stairs and sees JJ cooking breakfast.  

"Good morning, what are you doing up so early?" she asks while looping her hands around JJ's waist from behind, softly kissing her neck. 

"I woke up at like 6 and couldn't sleep" JJ states.

"Oh, are you feeling ok?" Emily asks backing off of JJ and leaning on the island that is across from the stove.

"I feel fine, I think it was just because we were relaxing for most of yesterday" JJ turns the stove off and walks over to Emily.

"You could've woke me" 

"It's ok, you looked really peaceful sleeping" JJ smiles, she throws her arms over Emily's shoulders. Emily wraps her arms around JJ, and kisses her head.

"Wait, where are the kids?" Emily asks, realizing that she hasn't seen either this morning.

"Kai was asked if she could go in and do some light restocking because the employee who was supposed to work today had to attend to something urgent, and she took Henry with her because she wanted to." JJ says, she moves to grab plates but Emily stops her. She tells her to sit and gets everything out herself.

Just as they began to eat Emily's phone rings, she throws her head back groaning and finally looks at the phone.

"It's my mom" she says to JJ.

Emily shrugs and picks up the phone.

"Hello?......No I've been up..... Oh, when?..... Today could work"

JJ watches Emily through the entire phone call, confused because she couldn't hear the other side of the conversation.

"She's here in Virginia for the wedding, and thought, you know, meeting you and seeing Kai before the wedding might be a good idea. Probably should have gotten you guys to meet when she first came to talk to me....." Emily says, as she begins to slow down her words and think about how meeting more than a couple days before the wedding would've been a better idea, "butttttt, how's today?" she asks enthusiastically, her sudden change of tone making JJ laugh. 

JJ nods, they finish eating and Emily sends her mother a text with the address of the bookstore Kai works at because she and JJ realized that's probably the easiest place to meet. 

"I'm gonna shower, do you still need to shower?" Emily asks, JJ nods as she places the last plate in the sink to wash later.

She turns to the time on the microwave, and says, "you know, I don't think we will make it in time if we both shower"

Emily smirks, "no?", she asks as she reaches for JJ's hand, she lightly pulls JJ behind her as they make their way to the shower in their empty house.

"Kai?" Liv calls

"Yeah?" Kai says, as she turns to face her co-worker.

"Your brother's is like holed up in the kids corner, is he ok?"
