15 - Date

Emily walks into her office to see Dave  picking up pieces of broken phone.

"Since when do you get here before me?" Emily jokes.

"Well I knew what happened and thought it was best that I cleaned this up than some random person asking questions" Rossi says as he dumps the rest of the phone in the trash.

"Thank you. Not only for this, but yesterday, getting the confession when I couldn't and driving me home."

"Don't mention it, kid." Rossi said walking out of her office. He doubles back sticking his head in the room, "calling my boss 'kid' might not be the greatest idea, but I'm sticking with it."

Emily laughs, telling him it's fine. He basically is the father of everyone on the team anyway.

"Hey JJ" Penelope says as she stops in front of JJ's desk.

JJ knows she's staying because she has something she needs to say but won't unless prompted, "yes, Penelope?"

"You know I saw it from the beginning"

"Saw what?" JJ asks, knowing exactly what she's talking about but not wanting to bite quite yet.

"Oh come on.. after yesterday in the briefing room, with the doors and blinds closed. That basically confirms it all."

"Confirms what, Pen?" JJ continues teasing.

"I will say it aloud and everyone will hear it."

"Hear what?" Luke asks as he and Matt walk to their desks.

"Yes Penelope, you are correct. You absolutely cannot tell anyone" JJ says quickly, not wanting this to be spread around so quickly.

"Now I'm interested" Tara pipes up.

"Look files."

"Like we ever actually get work done. Come on spill." Luke says

"Hey, Reid what was it again that thing you were saying about starfish the other day" JJ tries.

"According to..."

The week went by, they team had a case in Orlando, but they wrapped it up that same day.

Saturday came and Emily, for the first time ever, was actually worried about what to wear.

"You turned me into a nerdy kid and expect me to be able to help you with this" Kai asks.

"Try, please." Emily pleads.

"Nat's gonna be here in like 20 minutes, and your date is not for another 4 hours. How 'bout you let her help you out, they're much better with clothes."

"They should spruce up your fashion sense." Emily joked.

"Wow" Kai laughed as she flopped onto Emily's bed that held a couple's of nice tops and pants.

"Momma you look pretty" Henry says, sitting on the counter of the bathroom as JJ does her makeup.

"Thanks buddy"

"Where you going?"

"I'm going on something called a date"

"Like March 7th?" Henry asks, very confused.

JJ laughs, "no buddy not that kind of date. A different type of date is when someone goes and spends time with someone who they are in a relationship with."

"Relationship?"

What have I started, JJ thinks to herself.

"A relationship is a connection two people have. Our relationship is momma and son." JJ says, realizing that she can explain a relationship as herself and Henry rather than a dating relationship.

There's a knock on the door and JJ lifts Henry off the counter, turning off the light and grabbing her small purse off her bed, making her way to the door.

She opens it to be met with Kai and someone she doesn't recognize, but assumes is Natalie. Kai had asked if Natalie could join her tonight, and JJ obviously didn't have a problem with it.

"Come on in," she opens the door to let them in, "you must be Natalie" she said sticking her hand out.

"Yes, it's nice to meet you." Nat says as she shakes JJ's hand.

"Um yeah I guess I was supposed to introduce you guys. I'm bad at stuff like that but.." Kai laughs, " JJ, Nat. Nat, JJ"

Emily appears in the hall, "ready?" she asks JJ who was a couple steps inside her apartment.

"Yes", she turns back to the 18 year olds, "please don't break my child" she jokes.

The elevator door closes, "you look beautiful, Jayje" Emily says, taking in the simple but elegant dress that JJ is wearing

"Jayje?" She asks, as she gets within arms width of Emily, wrapping her arms around Emily's loose top.

"Is it insane to make a nickname of a nickname? Possibly. Will I do it anyway? Definitely?" Emily said as she wrapped her arms around JJ's waist, leaning down slightly to kiss the blonde.

The elevator doors open and Emily takes hold of JJ's hand walking her to the car.

"What about a movie?" Kai asks Henry, trying to find some way to get him to sleep.

"Yeah"

Kai put on a movie, and she and Nat watched it with Henry, waiting for him to fall asleep.

Roughly half way through the movie Nat looks down to see Henry fast asleep. Kai picks him up taking him to his room, as Nat lifts his blankets so Kai can put him down. They slowly close the door and make their way back to the couch of JJ's apartment.

"I honestly don't know how my mom dealt with me" Kai whispers, "she was in university, interning with the FBI and taking care of me at only 20. I could never"

"Your mom's amazing. She even let me live with you guys for a couple weeks in highschool back in Seattle." Nat adds.

"Oh yeah, when your brother was being a total ass and your parents did nothing about it"

"Like they ever did. 6 brothers and sexist, homophobic parents. Great combination." Nat jokes.

"Have you talked to them since you started university?" Kai asks, knowing exactly what Nat's life at home used to be like.

"David texts me. He applied to a couple universities in North Carolina."

"Ah yes, the good one" Kai joked, David was the only brother that didn't inherit her parents backwards ways.

"He asked if he can come live with me this summer. He said he wants to get out as soon as he graduates."

"Are you gonna let him?"

"Hell yeah, the other two little ones are brainwashed past repair. If I can help at least one of my brothers not be a total asshole, I'll do it"

Kai laughs.
