16 - Move in?

"Well I guess we can assume everyone know then" Emily says as she and JJ walk out of the restaurant.

"Yeah she's not a great secret keeper. When I was pregnant, she found out and the next day everyone knew. I'm surprised she made it to the end of the week." JJ laughs, walking out to the chilly sidewalk.

"It's only 9:30. We told Kai we'd be back at 11. What should we dooo" Emily said pulling JJ to the side of the sideway. The downtown streets pretty empty, despite it being Saturday night.

"I don't know." JJ said, wrapping her arms around Emily.

"Are we really going to be that couple slow dancing to high beat music" Emily asks as JJ drags her to dance floor of the club.

"Yes, yes we are" JJ said, wrapping her arms around Emily's neck, as Emily wraps her arm around JJ's waist.

The stood at the edge of the dance floor, loud, high beat music blasting into their ears, slowly swaying. Emily leans her head down to meet JJ's lips.

JJ pulls out her key, but Emily grabs her hand pulling her further down the hall of the apartment building.

"What are you doing?" JJ asks, clueless.

"We got stuck in traffic." Emily said smirking as she unlocked the door of her apartment. She grabs JJ's waist, pulling her into the room, shutting the door behind her and pressing JJ against it.

"Lying to your daughter, huh?" JJ said.

Emily kisses JJ, they make their way to Emily room. Stripping as soon as they enter the room. Emily pushed JJ onto her bed, she pushes herself to the headboard. Emily joins her, kissing JJ hard.

"No, use the bathroom at your apartment. When I flushed the toilet he woke up" Nat says.

"Yeah, I'll be back" Kai says walking out of JJ's apartment. She walks down the hall to hers and opens the door.

She closes the door behind her and begins to walk to the bathroom. Stopping short when she sees something laying on the floor. She walks over to pick it up, JJ's purse. Realization hits Kai and she rushes back out the door.

"You think she's gone?" JJ whispers as her head lays on Emily's shoulder.

"Probably" Emily whispers back, "I'm just glad she didn't come in 20 minutes ago"

JJ laughs quietly, turning her head, digging her face into Emily shoulder

"I should go though. It's like 12:30." JJ says as she sits up, grabbing her clothes and putting them on.

Emily walks JJ to the door, kissing her one last time before she leaves. A few minutes later Kai and Nat make their way into the apartment.

Emily and JJ's relationship grew over the next few months. Emily would wait until Kai fell asleep and sneak off to JJ's apartment for a couple hours.

"Henry was asking when all four of us are going to do something fun again. He really likes when we all go out and do things." JJ says.

Emily puts her arm around JJ's neck, and she leans onto the front of Emily's shoulder. Emily leans her head back onto the headboard of JJ's bed.

"I think he just wants to play with Kai, he barely talks to us." Emily laughs, although she is very glad that Henry and Kai get along so well especially with the huge age difference.

"That's true"

"You know what I was thinking about the other day. Kai and Henry's age difference is larger than yours and Kai's" Emily said.

"What?" JJ said popping her head off of Emily's shoulder and looking directly at her.

"I had Kai when I was 15, so you would have been 12. She's 18, he's 5, that's 13 years." Emily explains the math.

JJ lays back down on her shoulder.

"Welp"

Emily laughs.

"What time is it?" Emily asks looking over at the clock JJ has on her bed side table.

2:48

Emily sighs, "I should go"

"Yeah" JJ responds sadly, "you know there's a way we could fix this"

"Fix what?"

"You having to leave at 3 am most nights."

"Yeah? And what's that?"

"We could ..," JJ sits up, "move in together" she suggests, "I know that it's a big jump, but I feel like we would have taken it a lot earlier if we didn't have kids"

"I like the idea, I do. But these apartments are not big enough for 4 people." Emily says.

"We could move, find a place that fits all of us."

Emily kisses JJ, "can we talk about this tomorrow. My brain doesn't function at 3 am without alcohol."

"Sure" JJ laughs.

Emily quietly makes her way out of JJ's apartment, and back to her own. She slowly closes the door and sees the kitchen light on. She walks over.

"Kai?"

"Hey" she responds as if it wasn't 3 am, and her mother didn't just walk through the front door rather than her bedroom door.

"What are you doing up?" She asks, joining Kai on the island barstools.

"Couldn't sleep, got hungry" Kai says causally.

"Oh, um I was just-" Emily begins to think of a excuse to why she was walking into the apartment at 3 in the morning.

"At JJ's. You've been doing it for like 2 months now, you're not slick. I knew"

"I don't even know why I was hiding it. And I honestly thought you were asleep when I left." Emily says, stealing some of the food her daughter is eating.

"I was texting .. Nat. You just didn't see my phone when you opened the door."

"Why'd you hesitate before Nat."

"No reason, I'm going to go back to sleep. Night" Kai begins to get up, but Emily guides her to sit back down.

"Hey hey, wait. You don't have to tell me. I want to ask you something though."

"If it's who I was texting, I'm not telling you"

"Well that confirms it wasn't Nat, but no. How would you feel about moving in with JJ and Henry?"

"In these apartments? They're tiny"

"No," Emily laughs, "just in general. Like finding a new place and all four of us living together."

"I don't mind. I mean you two would probably move in together eventually."

"Okay, you can go to sleep now. Love you. And I think you should remind the person you are texting that if they break your heart, your mother's an FBI agent." Emily half jokes.

Oh I think he knows that Kai thinks.
