"hey guys-" george came to show them a funny looking item, but when he looked up at them, they were on the verge of kissing, "WOAH!" he shouted, purely surprised. the pair pulled back as their eyes widen. "oh- hi?" mavis let out a nervous chuckle.
"what the fuck did i miss?" sapnap said, popping out from behind a shelf. "nothing." dream and mavis said at the same time. quackity around from the same shelf as sap, he scanned all their faces, "why are we all shocked right now?" he asked.
"i'm asking the same thing!" sapnap laughed. mavis and dream made a quick excuse, and the group left the store. a weird tension filled in between mavis and dream. dream felt really stupid, he should've kissed her sooner, he wouldn't give one shit if anybody saw, he just wanted mavis to be his. mavis felt confused, were they just friends? he gave such mixed feelings.
the two walked separately from each other. "i saw you guys! you have to tell me later." george nudeged her. "fine." mavis sighed.
-
tension built, more and more between mavis and dream.
they ignored it as best as they could, and the group messed around in different stores but they eventually went home and mavis was in george's room with quackity on his phone. nick was with dream, they all had been talking about what happened. "so what happened before i walked in?" george asked, grabbing quackity's attention.
"okay, you know, i don't even know! i gave him a hug and then i just- i don't know? i looked up and he kept looking at my lips and he started to lean in- and you walked in." mavis explained, fidgeting with her fingers.
"WAIT WHAT?!" quackity's voice rang out, "that's why everybody was in shock? holy shit! i missed so much!" he laughed."mavis then you should tell him how you feel! he literally tried to kiss you! he likes you, there should be no reason for you to be rejected" george encouraged, quackity nodded along with his words. "i agree! you can do it mavis." quackity flashed a sweet smile to the girl.
she smiled back at the boys, "well when should i do it?" mavis asked. "now!!" quackity advised.
-
meanwhile..
"dude i literally almost kissed her!" dream groaned. "well then do it again, but actually kiss her!" sapnap told him, trying to hype him up. he shook his head, "no! did you see how awkward she was after? she totally doesn't like me. i'm not ruining a friendship i really value just because of my feelings." he denied.
sapnap rolled his eyes, "you are so blind! it's not even funny!" he buried his head in his hands. "no. i like her, and she doesn't like me, she's my bestfriend. we'd be better off as friends." he said, sighing, before seeing mavis come in.
"hey guys, i need to talk to clay." mavis chirped, implying for sap to leave. "alright, talk to you guys soon." he said, closing the door to talk to george and quackity. "hey." dream said dryly. "hi!" she sat on his bed, next to him.
"what did you need to say?" he asked, avoiding eye contact. "oh yeah- okay. so, we almost kissed earlier? and i just wanted to say that i like-" he cringed at her words, quickly cutting her off, "mave, you're my best friend, and i shouldn't have done that earlier. i'm sorry, i didn't mean it."
she stared blankly, trying not to let the tears slip, "oh." she looked away, so close to breaking down. the boy she had always loved had finally gave her more clues he liked her, but he never actually did like her. the thought shook her to her core.
she took a deep breath, "well, this is stupid now- i was actually going to say i liked you, but i'm sorry that i misunderstood everything." she tried to force a smile.
as dream heard her words, he felt worse and worse. "holy shit." he thought to himself. he opened his mouth to say how he really felt, but he panicked, nothing came out. "yeah, um, i'm just- gunna go." she let a shaky breath, closing the door.
mavis walked slowly to george's room, tears running down her face, purely embarrassed. she opened the door to see all the boys hyped up about them. "mavis!" george saw her face, and quickly got up to give her a hug.
she sniffled into his chest while he rubbed her head for comfort. "hey, it's okay, tell me whenever your ready." he brought her to the bed, still keeping her in his arms. "i'll check in with dream." sapnap left the room. quackity rubbed mavis' back, throwing encouraging words to ease her.
"he said that— he doesn't like me that way. how could i be so stupid?" she said, slowly raising her head away from george. "mavis, you aren't stupid, he's just— weird." george said, wiping tears from her face with his thumb. "that motherfucker!" quackity whispered yelled.
-
meanwhile..
"dude. what the fuck is wrong with you?!" sapnap came storming into his room. "what--" dream asked, still stunned by what a dumb action he had done. "what did you do to mavis! she's crying because of you! you better not have hurt her." sapnap angrily yelled.
he felt his heart drop. he realized how much damage he probably did to mavis. he had never felt so much guilt, he never meant it like that. he loved her if anything, and she had finally felt the same, but he messed up. the moment he had his chance.
it hurt, it hurt both of them.
"i just said i didn't like her like her after she confessed— i don't know why. i just panicked. fuck." he moved to the side of his bed, his legs on the ground. his knee couldn't stop shaking. sapnap noticed his regret, and rubbed his back. "hey! it's okay, you just- uhh you have to explain." he said. "there's no way she'll believe me." he replied, hands running through his hair.
