"I need to get to a place where I can talk to them. I'll do my best to calm them down before anyone gets hurt," Logan told Patton.
Before Patton could even respond, the castle door started shaking as if the devil himself was trying to rattle it open.
Angry voices could be heard from the other side. "Open up!" "Stop hiding!" "Kill the beast!"
"Everyone back up!" Logan told the others as they backed away towards the stairs, Logan felt someone grab his arm and pull him up the stairs and behind a wall.
The furniture against the castle doors didn't last long, with a lot of screeching the villagers finally pushed the door open and suddenly all the villagers were pouring in.
The shouting stopped and everyone was silent as the villagers looked around.
People started to climb up the stairs warily and Lukas looked for any sign of, well, anyone really.
Logan jumped when he heard a very loud voice echoing through the room, "You people really shouldn't have come without a notice!"
The banner that hung over the staircase fell after someone shot it with an arrow.
"Remus!" Logan hissed, seeing his crossbow floating in midair.
The banner fell on several people and they started to shout and scream.
"Wait!" Logan called out, trying to stop the panic.
"It's the invisible army!" a man shouted.
"The beast sent them after us!" another screamed.
"No one is attacking you!" Logan tried to shout over the chaos, but it seemed as if no one listened.
Lukas used the carnage to his advantage as he slipped past anyone. He quickly turned into a bird again and flew up the stairs and into the hallway.
When he decided he was far enough, he turned back into a human and continued to look for anyone. He wanted to find the beast first, then Virgil.
It seemed like Logan was going to get himself killed if he kept trying to stop the villagers, but that's fine. Once he's out of the way, Lukas can just put Virgil under a spell to make him fall in love with him. Virgil will be his.
Virgil's chest tightened with fear when he heard the shouting. He raised the fire fork again and hit it against the bolts holding the door to the wall. Okay, yeah, he was going at it the wrong way, but he was panicked.
If they saw Roman they would kill him the first moment they got. Virgil couldn't let that happen, he wouldn't.
The wood splintered as Virgil kept stabbing at the bolts. Finally he got the fire fork under one of the door bolts and he pried it off. That was one out of three and he was already exhausted. He would never get out in time.
"Logan!" the scientist turned to the voice that had shouted his name. He saw Mr. Miller coming up from the stairs. "Oh thank goodness you're okay, where's Virgil?"
"Safe! The beast is harmless! You have to help me stop everyone!" Logan told him, grabbing his hand.
"But Lukas-"
"Lied! Whatever he told you was all a lie! Please, you must help!"
Mr. Miller seemed to understand and his eyes hardened as he turned back to the screaming crowd. Grown adults were screaming their heads off, running around and swinging at empty air.
"Enough!" Mr. Miller shouted surprisingly loud. "No one is attacking you!"
Slowly, but surely, everyone stopped shouting and turned to listen. Logan looked around to see who was here and with a start he noticed Lukas was missing.
"Come out, beast!" Lukas shouted, kicking open every door.
Roman heard and growled, that voice definitely didn't belong to Remus or Patton. If those villagers had hurt any of them...
He looked back at the rose, another petal fell off. It had started to wilt more quickly recently, now only three petals remained. He didn't want to fight in this room, he didn't want to risk the flower being destroyed.
But that human was close by, and he didn't want to seem like a threat to the villagers. He would just have to defend himself.
The door burst open and Roman turned to the human.
Lukas smirked at him, leveling his gun and pointing at Roman.
"You're the beast who had kidnapped my Virgil! I, Lukas Gaston, won't let you get away with it!"
Virgil pried off the last door bolt, laughing in joy. The fighting seemed to have died down and Virgil pulled the door away.
His smile fell and fear twisted inside of him when he heard a gunshot. He gripped the fire fork tight and ran towards the sound, not caring anymore about how his ankle threatened to collapse each time he stepped on it.
Roman was now very angry, this was the man that Virgil told him had abused him. But he had a gun, and the bullet that Lukas had shot barely missed him, just grazing his arm.
Lukas reloaded as Roman slowly started to back up, against the now broken glass door that led to the balcony.
"Virgil told me about you, you're a monster," Roman growled.
"Look in a mirror, beast, you're the monster." Lukas leveled the gun again. "And I'm just finishing what my mother had started."
Romans eyes widened at that statement. He realized Lukas's eyes had turned red, he remembers those eyes all too well.
He fell to the ground as the bullet went over his head before getting up again, ready to pounce on Lukas. However Lukas was in front of him and kicked him back with inhuman strength, making Roman crash through the glass door behind him.
The winter rain was cold, but Roman ignored it. Lukas kicked the glass out of the way and continued to walk towards Roman.
With a roar, Roman swiped at Lukas, sending his shotgun flying. Lukas just sneered and unsheathed his dagger that was at his side. Roman saw black scales climbing up his arms and neck, and after a flash of lightning he had horns and wings.
He growled with anger, this was the son of that dragon witch. The one who had done this to him, turned him into a beast and killed his parents.
He looked back at the rose and saw another petal fall. He was running out of time.
