"School is starting tomorrow! I'm so excited!" Stacey squealed over the phone.
"I'm not." I stated blandly, munching on a potato chip.
"Stop being such a downer." She said.
"Yeah, it will mess with the flow of your chi!" Veronica said from the background.
"Oh jeez. Wouldn't want that." I rolled my eyes.
"Okay Debbie downer. Have fun moping. By the way, better show up bright and early to get your schedule." Stacey said, laughing.
"Okay thanks guys. Byeeee!" I said and shut the phone, sighing and facing my closet.
"What to wear, what to wear..." I sighed, and shuffled racks around, trying on clothes.
I finally decided, after hours of searching, on a plain white shirt, ripped Jean shorts, some necklaces and bracelets, and white converse. I laid out the outfit for tomorrow, and went downstairs to get a snack. My mini-fridge was nearly empty.
I was rummaging through the cupboard when I heard a snicker behind me. Looking up with a pack of chips in my hand, I faced Aiden, who was leaning across the table. He was wearing a green t-shirt that brought out his eyes, like two incredible orbs. I was struck. I tried to shake it off.
"Why are you in my house at--" I checked my phone, "--10:46?" I narrowed my eyes.
Does he not remember what happened only yesterday? Is that why he was here? Oh no.
"Why are you eating chips at 10:47?" He mimicked checking his phone dramatically.
"Hey, don't question my living standards and I won't question yours." I pointed at him.
"I have some questions for you, Piper." He stretched out my name, and the way he said it gave me shivers. I avoided his gaze. "Why do you keep running away?"
"What?" I stalled, already backing up towards the door.
"See? You're doing it again." He drawled.
"Doing what?" I tried to calculate how fast I would be able to run.
"You're stalling. You're going towards the door, and you're going to run." He stated. "How predictable of you."
I stopped. "I am not predictable." That was one thing I never wanted to be in life.
I felt like that was an insult. Only stereotypical girls were predictable. And I would not let myself become stereotypical. Trust me.
"Did I hit a nerve, Piper?" He smiled cheekily, emphasizing my name like newfound treasure. That would not get old fast.
"No. Not at all." I turned and walked out of the kitchen. I was not running away from my problem. Technically, I was walking.
Was Aiden really the problem right now?
I didn't care if he was in my house. That much. He found his way in, so obviously he knows where the door is and how to get out. What even was he thinking? Boys are so confusing.
All my life I've acted so confident and experienced around boys, even though I've never even been kissed. Sure, I've had boyfriends, but none of them were, to say, active. Most of the time they were intimidated by me. But I've never had anyone make me fumble around like Aiden does. He makes me so clumsy and awkward just by raising his eyebrows and I'm scared he can see it. I don't want to look weak. Heck, I can't believe I'm admitting to myself that I'm attracted to him.
I marched up the stairs and closed my door, and I turned around and screamed.
"What?" Aiden asked, lying on my bed.
"Wha--how--when--" I stuttered.
"There are two staircases in your home, lovely Sprinkles. You can't escape that easily." He winked, sending goosebumps, hell, elephant bumps down my back.
"Aiden--"
"C'mon Sprinkles. Talk to me. Tell me why you decided to kiss me, then run away." He lifted an eyebrow, and my heart fluttered. "Why you whispered your name oh-so-delicately.." He lowered his voice. It made my spine tingle and my stomach lurch, even though I wasn't that close to him.
Was I blushing? I never blush!
"What do you mean?" I asked meekly and sat down on a chair.
He sat up, staring deeply into my eyes. "This isn't over Piper. You started a war." He stood up, and I felt my heart pounding as he got closer. He put his arms on the two arms of my chair, trapping me. "A kissing war." And with a soft kiss on my lips, he disappeared. I opened my eyes, heart threatening to jump out of my chest.
"Wow." I breathed.
