Neither of us understood what was going on. Why would the world want some narcissist to take up the shield?
After Anthony had gone to bed, Bucky and I discussed everything that happened. He seemed to be taking it harder than I was, and I could not blame him. "Why wouldn't Sam take up the shield?" Bucky asked, frustrated, resting his hand on his forehead. It was like the very thought was giving him a headache. "I don't know. He wouldn't answer any of my texts," I touched Bucky's arm. I wanted to find out just as much as Bucky did, and Sam always ignored my messages.  "Now Steve's legacy is being dragged through the mud," he sighed exasperatedly. I stroked his hand to soothe him. "I know, it isn't fair," I made it a point to listen to how he was feeling.  He touched my hand lovingly and kissed it. Bucky smiled, "What did I do to deserve you?" "Just by being you," I smiled back and touched his face. We shared a sweet kiss, and we were still close to each other. Just then, we heard footsteps coming down the hall. It was Anthony. "Mom, Dad, I can't sleep. Can you tell me a bedtime story?" Anthony rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Yes, honey," I said. To forget about what was going on in the world for a moment, we read our son a bedtime story, and we enjoyed each other's company. Bucky made up a story to tell Anthony, and he was an excellent storyteller. Let's say the story involved a lot of puppies; that was adorable to listen to.
