Bucky and I arrived in Washington D.C. and they were having a broadcast for the new Captain America. The broadcast showed a football field at John Walker's old high school, and there was a marching band playing "Star Spangled Man With a Plan" and boy did it make a spectacle of itself. Might as well have given him an entourage of screaming girls. I could tell Bucky was trying not to throw the television set out the window, and I couldn't blame him.
"Well, enough of that," I took the remote and turned the TV off. Bucky was quiet for a long time, and I was getting concerned. I touched his metal hand and stroked it with my thumb, feeling the familiar coldness. "Babe, what's wrong?" "I don't know," he said holding my hand. "Are you angry that they made Narcissus himself the new Captain America?" I asked with a hint of humor. He smiled weakly, "Yes, it's like you can read my mind or something." he kissed me on the cheek. "Well, I do have a master's degree in mind-reading," I teased flirtatiously. I cuddled next to him, and I used my newly acquired magic to draw the two of us in the air, my telepathic drawing showed us slow dancing at the safe house in Berlin, seven years earlier. The purple light illuminated the room and gave us a calming feel. Bucky's icy blue eyes were full of happiness, and he put his arm around me. I touched his face, "Everything's gonna be okay, I'm here for you, always." I stroked his face. "Thank you," he whispered. "Of course," I kissed him lovingly. He returned the kiss, "I love you." "I love you too." I smiled. "We make a great team," I reminded him. "That we do," he hugged me and picked me up, and spun me around. I giggled like a little girl because he always did that when I wasn't expecting it. I gave him a quick kiss on the lips and we set off to go meet up with Sam.
"You had no right to give up that shield," Bucky said walking down the stairs to the hangar, where Sam and another guy were talking. "Good to see you too, Buck," Sam replied sarcastically. "Hey Sadie," he greeted nicely to me. "Hi Sam," I greeted. "This isn't what Steve wanted," Bucky said gruffly. "What do you want me to do? Call America and tell them I've changed my mind?" Sam asked. "Did you know this was going to happen?" Bucky demanded. "No, I did not," he said, almost painfully. "All we want to know is why you didn't take up the mantle," I clarified trying to diffuse the tension, and as I did that I held Bucky's hand. "It didn't feel right," he replied. "Why?" I asked curiously, in the same manner, I talk to my patients. "It's hard to explain," he said. "We have a bigger problem than that," Sam took a device out of his pocket and showed us the same news article about the mysterious attackers in masks. "They're called the Flag Smashers, Redwing traced them to Munich, and that's where I'm going." "I found that article on our way here, they almost seem superhuman," I observed. "I don't trust Redwing," Bucky said. "You don't have to trust Redwing," Sam replied. "I have a feeling they might be a part of the Big Three." "What Big Three?" asked Bucky in disbelief. "The Big Three," Sam said like it was a matter of fact. "What Big Three?" Bucky asked again, getting annoyed. "Androids, aliens, and wizards," Sam shot back. "That's not a thing," my husband was getting more annoyed by the minute. "It's definitely a thing," Sam replied. "No, it's not." Bucky shot back. "Guys, please..." I warned. "Every time we fight, we fight one of the three," Sam debated. "So who are you fighting now, Gandalf?" Bucky asked fully annoyed. "How do you know about Gandalf?" Sam asked curiously. "I read the Hobbit, in 1937 when it first came out," he said proudly. " "You read The Hobbit? That's one of my favorite books!" I said happily, I was grateful I was able to stop the argument for a minute. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world," he quoted with his handsome smile. I smiled and kissed him. "Okay, so you know what I'm talking about," Sam interrupted our kiss. "I don't, because there are no wizards," Bucky snapped. "Doctor Strange," reminded Sam. "Is a sorcerer," my husband said. "A sorcerer is a wizard without a hat. Think about it, right? I'm right. I just came up with it, it's great." Sam said pridefully. "These guys aren't magic, they use brute force just like you. The annoying guy with the staring problem," he added. "Sam, please," I said getting tired of the arguing. "Well, we're coming with you," Bucky told him, he and I started walking. "No, you're not!" he said. "Enough with the arguing! It's getting old!" I shouted. "Well, he started it," Bucky said in a way that reminded me of a little kid. I ran my hands through my hair trying not to snap, "Well, I'll finish it." I closed my eyes tight trying to avoid getting a headache. I realized what I just said, "Since when have I become a mother to two grown men?" I said to myself while walking into the aircraft. I sat down on a bench, and Bucky sat next to me. "Sadie, I'm sorry, that was out of line," he said sincerely. I smiled, "You're forgiven," I cuddled up against him and he kissed me on the forehead. "You're too adorable to stay mad at," I flirted before kissing him. "And you're still the most beautiful woman in the whole universe," he flirted back before returning the kiss. "Hey, lovebirds! Cool it with the PDA, or I'm gonna be sick and you're not going to want to see that," Sam warned. Bucky and I stopped kissing and looked at him. "So us kissing makes you uncomfortable?" Bucky asked. "Yes, very much so," Sam said. "Too bad, I am showing my beautiful wife that I love her," he kissed me on the forehead. That made me happy, and I leaned my head against his shoulder. "Awww, I love you too, honey," we laced our fingers together. "Uh, this is going be a long flight," Sam sat on the bench across from us. Even though Bucky was still holding me, I could feel the tension between him and Sam. You could cut it with a knife.
