Clarissa's POV

"Begin." The moment he gave the orders everyone got into formation. The administrators quickly took all of us away except for one. He is the first to fight.

The secret guards stood in a line and the administrators asked him to choose who he wants to fight. The challengers were stunned by this development.

I knew about this. I read in their records that every year they do something new. This year it is to fight the secret guards, last year it was to fight the general and his proteges, and so on. Last year the challengers weren't offered this choice but this time they want to tease us.

Nobody said anything and silently looked on with baited breaths. The first challenger was caught off guard but he quickly regained his posture and confidently looked around. It took him quite a while before he pointed at a man with an average height and muscular build.

"Will you please fight against me, sir?" He asked politely. It seems like he didn't want to choose someone too powerful but at the same time, someone average. The one he selected looked the perfect fit. The secret guard didn't say anything and just nodded in response.

The one standing beside him spoke, "He is not much of a talker." He was holding back his laughter while his subordinate walked over to the field and stopped in front of the challenger.

The secret guard didn't say anything nor did his face reveal any expressions but it was his aura, the energy that he was emitting made the challenger gulp back in fear. He might not be the perfect choice after all. They aren't secret guards for nothing.

Seriously, you can't judge someone by the way they look.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that the fight ended just when it began. Right as the referee gave the permission, the challenger made his first move and the secret guard dodged it perfectly and at the same used it against him to throw him flat onto the ground with his hands and legs locked under him while keeping pressure on his neck as if warning that if he even tried to breathe, his head would fly off.

The challenger surely couldn't move a muscle because he was too perplexed and just like I said, it ended in a flash.

The challengers all around gasped. The ones who were already nervous got scared and the ones who were confident got shaken up. Meanwhile, the secret guards found it very amusing as they laughed loudly and said to their subordinate that he was too cruel, he should've given him more chances. This crumbled the pride of the challengers even lower.

The challenger who was announced lost ages ago was still unable to move. He laid on the ground motionless until the administration department took him away.

"Next!" The general roared.

Just like that, the competition continued.

One after another, challengers went to the field, chose their opponent, and either won or lost. So far, only six people have won out of thirteen of us and I am the last one. That'll make it seven.

I walked up to the field without any hesitation or fear. The organizers were watching me closely, I knew that because I have always scored perfectly in each level of competition. I will also use this opportunity to stand out.

I folded my arms and looked over the secret guards perceptively. All of them have fought some of them twice. After a calculative thought, I asked, "Who is the leader?"
