Clarissa's POV

I relaxed my expressions as I noticed Tyler approaching me, a wide grin on his face, with Alexandria tottering behind him, avoiding eye-contact.

"Nice to meet you again, Vice-Captain. And it's a pleasure to meet the Royal Secretary," he greeted us with vibrant enthusiasm.

To others, the Archduke's existence is shrouded in mystery. He is introduced simply as the Royal Secretary, although he is not.

"The feeling is mutual, Alpha, Luna," I responded with a blank look on my face while the Archduke remained silent.

"I've been wondering when we would get the chance to talk again. You seemed busy," he said with harmless charm.

He truly believes that I've lost my memories. I have no intention of revealing the truth anytime soon either. How can I resist the opportunity to play him for a fool?

"I apologise, Alpha. As His Majesty's guard, I rarely have the chance to remain by myself," I innocently smiled back.

"I understand. However, Clarissa, I wanted to talk to you about your parents and our childhood. I heard from Her Grace, Royal Beta Charlotte, that you've lost all your memories of us."

I sensed the Archduke's hand, which had been toying with his drink, suddenly stop.

Externally, I remained stoic, but internally, I twitched. He dares to bring up those topics so casually. He's still as cruel as ever.

"Alexa was deeply worried about you. In fact, everyone was worried sick in the pack when you disappeared. When will you come back, Clarissa? Everyone will be happy to know you're safe and doing well in life."

I nearly scoffed at his words. I know full-well what he intends to do by bringing me back. He won't kill me.

He'll do worse.

There was a smile on his face while he spoke, but there was a sinister undertow lurking beneath the depths of his façade, one that only I could detect.

"Do you know them personally?" the Archduke asked from behind me. The light tone from our previous conversation had disappeared, replaced by a tone spiked with tension.

I shook my head. "No."

"Clarissa, don't be so distant," he said, grabbing my hand, and I felt an unexpected surge of sparks upon his touch. Ellie woke up from her slumber, panicked and fearful.

"We used to be best friends," he smirked, holding my hand and acting so familiarly. His gaze remained fixed on me, as though searching for a reaction. However, I remained as expressionless as stone. Although the sparks were hard to ignore, they made me feel nauseous instead of causing butterflies to flutter in my stomach.

I gently withdrew my hands from his hold and took a step back. There were eyes on me, and I didn't want to start another weird rumour. Alexandria was already arousing suspicions with her scared stature. She didn't seem to be reuniting with a long-lost friend; instead, her demeanour suggested that she was crossing her sworn enemy.

"Alpha, I understand the sentiment behind your words, but I have no memories of the life you speak about. I apologize, but I have no intention of returning to your pack. I now belong to Holy Lycan pack, I hope you understand."
