Clarissa's POV

The day had come to return to the Holy Lycan Pack. Everyone gathered near the border, where dozens of cars were parked, belonging to various Alphas and pack members. Leaders were busy exchanging farewells, distributing inter-pack meeting schedules, party invites, hunting invites in advance, and more.

I stood a few steps away from the King while he engaged in conversations with Alphas and Betas, reciprocating their farewells and engrossing himself in last-minute discussions.

Tyler also approached the King, accompanied by Alexandria at his side. He didn't spare me a single glance though. He exchanged words with the King in a poised manner before withdrawing. Alexandria, too, displayed a confident demeanour, unlike the other day. She behaved like a Luna, holding her head high with pride. She also refused to acknowledge my presence.

Nonetheless, it was evident to me that she was putting on an act. Her hands were trembling. She was still reeling under the weight of my words, the contents of which she will never divulge to Tyler. Revealing that information is akin to exposing that nasty aspect of herself that they both seemed to be aware of but disregarding it all the same.

As Tyler and Alexandria walked towards their car, with him holding her arm, I pondered if he had given up pestering me for the time being after facing numerous failures. However, my speculation was short-lived as his voice rang in my mind, "This vengeful story of ours...I'm intrigued to see what you'll do next, mate."

I didn't deign to look at him as he took unfavourable advantage of our mate bond to mind-link me. "Be mindful not to get hurt. I wouldn't want someone else to mar that pretty face of yours."

I swiftly cut off my mind-link. He is a pest. No use listening to him.

It appears this is his new strategy to harass me after being rejected repeatedly in the past two days. Following the day Alexandria left my room, I had hoped my message was loud and clear, and that I would be given respite from his incessant badgering, but he heedlessly persisted, only to be thwarted by Amin. I didn't order him, but he obstructed Tyler cleverly. He would deny his requests for a meeting without even asking me. He wouldn't even allow him to grab the chance to approach me at the dinner or anywhere in the open. Amin made sure not to allow even a single strand of his hair to pollute my vision.

I was not wrong in putting my faith in Amin's capability when choosing him.

"Aren't you supposed to be working?" I whispered to the Archduke, who had been discreetly standing behind me in the shadows, hiding from everyone in plain sight.

The Archduke has been assigned the task of progressing the investigation into the massacre and poison case, leading a team of warriors and doctors.

"It can wait for a few minutes," he responded without revealing himself to the crowd. Though I'm certain the King and Royal Beta must have already sensed his presence, they chose to let it slide.

He fell silent for a long moment before he spoke sincerely, "Take good care of His Majesty."

"It's my duty."

"Take care of yourself too."

I maintained my vigilance, sweeping my gaze across the field for potential threats, offering no verbal response to his emotional advice.

"Aren't you going to tell me to take care of myself?" He asked with a tinge of melancholy.

"Did you come here for pep talk?"
