"Sometimes I wonder if I even matter," my dad spoke.

Where was this even coming from?

"Of course, you do, dad. And I'm sorry that I haven't been around as much lately. I've made some new friends," I told him. That much I could disclose. I just couldn't disclose the true nature of those friends or myself, for that matter.

His features relaxed a little then.

"I'm glad that you've made some new friends, Ophelia. It's a good thing," he said. "I only want you to know that I'm here for you, too."

I smiled at that.

"I know you are, dad," I said.

Soon after watching some TV with my dad, I made my way back to my room, walked right over to the bed, and immediately fell asleep.

Spending all this time with the wolves was really beginning to tire me out. After all, there was a lot to do and think about.

At dawn, the next day, the sun glowed through my blinds.

I went to look outside to find that Accalia's father's car was parked up there.

I supposed that she must have been waiting for me.

Swiftly getting ready, I brushed my teeth, combed my hair and then got dressed.

At last, I could make my way downstairs and outside to join Accalia in the car.

"Hey, Ophelia," she greeted me with a smile.

"Hey Alia," I replied with warmth.

She appeared to be in a good mood, which was a good thing.

"The tribe's all at our house. It wouldn't be right to leave you out of a meeting," she said.

A meeting. That sounded serious.

"It sounds serious but really we simply meet to discuss things," she informed me, as she began to drive on towards her house.

I gave an understanding nod in response to that statement, as I watched the trees whizz by while she drove on.

As soon as we walked into the house, I heard Uziel's voice.

We walked into the living room to find that everyone was stood there, including Mr. Z and Uma.

Naomi was playing with some toys, not really caring for what the adults were talking about.

When I saw Fenn, I noticed that his hair was a little lighter. He must have dyed it.

"And you really think some of your little science experiments are going to help save the tribe?" Uziel asked, as he folded his arms in front of his chest. He didn't look convinced and the way that he was currently standing truly brought that point across.

Fenn looked as though he wasn't about to get offended by Uziel's criticism, as he continued to type away on his laptop. I suspected that he was writing up notes on finding a cure.

"Yara, could you please get me a coffee?" Fenn requested politely.

"Of course, sweetie," Yara replied, with a kind smile, as she made her way into the kitchen.

Accalia turned to Uziel, then, with a serious expression.

"Fenn's the most logical-minded person I know. He's going to work out a way of getting us out of this mess," she said.

"Yes, well, we're not in a mess," Uziel said, "Yet," he added, as a troubled expression appeared on his face.

"I've been working on this for some time,"  Fenn replied matter-of-factly, "Well, I've been working on this and a game I'm designing, but that's beside the point. I know what I'm doing. That's all you need to know."

"And us standing around arguing about it isn't going to cure this virus," Zachariah said.

Uma looked at him with admiration clear in her gaze.

"So, I suggest we listen to Fenn's plan," Luka spoke up then and immediately everyone looked towards him.

As the leader, he had a way of capturing everyone's attention. What he had to say mattered. It really was important, and he deserved to be respected.

"Hello, Ophelia, how are you doing?" he asked me, with a gentle smile, as his eyes met my own.

"I'm good, thank you, Luka," I said.

He nodded and then returned his attention to Fenn.

"Fenn- what exactly do we need for this medicine?" he asked. "I've been thinking about this for  some time and I think the plants in the forest could be a good starting point."

Fenn nodded in agreement.

"We were all led to Lykos forest for a reason. The forest is there to protect us. I believe if we combine the right berries, flowers, whatever we can, together, then we will be able to produce an antidote," he said.

An expressive smile appeared on Luka's face, then.

"Exactly," he said.

"I'll help find some ingredients soon, if you would like," Zachariah offered.

Fenn turned to him with an expression of gratitude.

"I'll begin to draw up ideas of what we will need," Luka said.

Uma leant against the wall then and her eyes filled with kindness.

"How is everyone feeling, out of curiosity?" she asked, "I could make some cookies."

"How exactly is that going to help us?" Zachariah asked, as he turned on her.

Ordinarily enough, I would have suspected for Uma to appear offended. Instead, she just seemed glad that he was talking to her.

"It might help take people's minds off everything," she suggested.

"I trust you to not blow up the kitchen, Uma, that would be great," Luka said, with some good-natured humour in his voice.

Zachariah's face hardened and he eventually pulled his eyes off Uma, as if an uncomfortable feeling had stirred within him. It was one that I couldn't fully comprehend.

"I'll help," Yara, who had placed Fenn's coffee down beside him, spoke.

Uma gazed at her with appreciation. I could tell that she was determined to lift everyone's spirits and that made me admire her even more. She was a hard working person, and despite her somewhat cold attitude at times, she truly could be gentle. She had an unmatched loyalty that made me only wish to respect her, even if I didn't fully understand her at times.
