THE FOLLOWING DAY marked Roxanne's first match in two years, and her excitement was palpable. The night prior, she discreetly acquired a sleeping draught from Madam Promfeys' medical cabinet, leading to the most restful, dreamless sleep she had experienced in days.Despite the lingering shadows under her eyes, Celeste had managed to reduce them to a noticeable extent. Her excitement had overshadowed any concern for her appearance.
"Honestly, Rose, how much sleep did you get?" Celeste inquired.
"Good enough, Lesty. I stole Poppy's sleeping draught," Roxanne grinned, prompting an eye roll from Celeste. "I'm not heading to a bloody party; you don't have to doll me up," she added as Celeste applied blush, emphasizing that additional makeup wasn't necessary, especially considering it would likely smudge during the game.
"You need to look perfect today," Celeste insisted.
"Don't I always look perfect," Roxanne quipped with a playful smirk.
Heading to the Great Hall for breakfast, Roxanne battled a mix of nerves and a stomach ache, but she dismissed it — just pure excitement.
"Black!" Marcus Flint bellowed from the Slytherin table. Roxanne sighed, "Don't mess up today —you know what happens if you mess up," he warned. She rolled her eyes, thinking her countless Quidditch practices spoke for themselves.
"Come on, Flint. You know she's not messing up," Adrian chimed in, winking at Roxanne, who responded with a sly smile.
"Can't mess up with the exhausting personal training you've been putting me through," Roxanne said sarcastically, noticing Draco glaring at his cousin. "The real question is if we can count on Malfoy to catch the snitch this time."
Her comment sparked grins from some Slytherins, excluding Draco and his duo of goons. Goyle, however, gazed at her admirably. "Catching the snitch would be useless if you throw our team down the drain by not scoring," Draco retorted, earning an amused raised eyebrow from Roxanne.
"As far as I know, the snitch is worth a hundred and fifty points— scoring fewer goals wouldn't mean anything if you actually manage to catch it for once," she countered, playfully rolling her eyes at Draco's retort.
"Alright, listen up. Today isn't the day for squabbling. If we manage to win from Ravenclaw and later, Gryffindor – we're sealing the deal for the cup this year. So, let's cut out the bickering and make sure to eat enough before the match," Ares Avery asserted, his annoyance palpable. The older beater had no intention of facing a loss today, especially not against Ravenclaw.
