"fate get up." timothée nudges my arm gently.

i open my eyes slowly starting with the left eye. "did you sleep well on the floor." i joke, walking to the bathroom.

"did you know." he stops talking.

i turn around before walking out the door. "continue."

"forget it."

i give a faith smile. "come on, you can't just say that and not tell me!" i roll my eyes jokingly.

he sits on the bed, running his hand through his hair, he looks at one thing and then looks back up at me. his eyes shown to be more gentle, less harsh.

"ive always slept on the floor and never complained." he says.

i looked at him with a confused look, placing a cardigan over my shoulders by the cold breeze. "yeah?"

"because instead of being comfortable and being in a different room and having my own bed i chose to stay on the floor because i needed to make sure you were okay." he says.

it was hard to realize he cared till he explained he did.

"no matter how much my back hurt from the floors, i stayed. no matter how mad you were at me, i stayed fate." he says with more passion.

"we all have our ways on showing we care timothée." i muttered.

"but i care far too much for you and it's starting to worry me." he looks away, fidgeting with his hands.
"it's like i hate you so much that sometimes that you're all i can think of." he blabbered.

but before i can speak he interrupts me.

"nevermind, it's not like you noticed—forget it." he walks out the room, bumping into my shoulder.

"gosh timothée." i say quietly, seeing him walk out.

i wish i could say i love him, but i couldn't. those words were to strong and had too much power. but parts of me told me i did love him, i loved him a lot.

i promised not to love him like he said but that only made me fall for him even deeper.

marcus puts riley on his back as we all began walking. "marcus tell me a joke!" she laughs, keeping her hand around marcus neck so she wouldn't slip off.

"knock knock."

"who's there?" riley giggled with excitement.

"atch."

"arch who?"

"bless you."

she slaps his arm with quiet laughter.

it was early in the morning, the sun was out. the coldness hits our jacket leaving shivers down my spine. half asleep with zero energy following the trail to get to fairmount haven.

timothée and i are apart, further apart than usual. his confession didn't make sense to me, none of it did. how can someone say that and proceed to tell me not to love them.

i don't understand why him caring for me was so scary to him. not a lot of things scared him but this did. what was so bad for him to care for me?

the sounds of engines follow near by and slowly makes its way closer to us. timothée knew there were entirely no place to hide because it was far to late to.

"those killers things can't drive right?" marcus asked.

"not at all, the most they can do is kill. the person in the car has to be human." timothée mumbled.

the car stops driving, the passenger steps out. he was tall, a built man much older than all of us. dark brown hair with an all black leather jacket.

"why hello." he says, he shows his hands they were empty to show he was harmless, his voice was deep and intimidating.

this was the first time we've seen a human from the
trail, although i should've been more cautious and scared, i wasn't.

"name." timothée says without any emotion, he reaches behind his pocket in case, fingers on the gun.

"malcom." the man says. "you seem to be all young aye? a couple of teenagers." he paused, seeing riley being marcus back. "and a child..."

"what do you want?" marcus looks up at him, his eyes were fearless as he looked deep into his soul.

"you're on your way to fairmount huh?" he says.

timothée sighs, already done with the conversation. "looks like it, yeah."

the man hits the roof of his car. "why don't y'all come on in? i'll make the trip on your way there faster." he tries inviting us to his car.

"cars are a little too loud. it attracts those killer things." timothée says. "gotta be smarter than that man." he looks him up and down with a smirk on his face. "we'll walk the rest of the way, goodluck."

the man gets back into his car and drives the opposite way. it was safe to walk again.

timothée kept his eyes on the car till it was far in the distance and he turns back around to walk forward.

"idiot." he says under his breath.

riley gets off marcus back and goes over to hold his hand. i knew the look on her face she was frightened by the man.

"it's okay riley." i go over to comfort her. "you shouldn't feel scared. ever." i rub her hand to stop her from shaking.

"i don't like that man." she says softly.

"me neither."

branches being cracked from the left side of us, like someone was rushing through the woods and making its way over.

my body is grabbed, held by my arms and stomach being pushed upon someone's body. a pistol is pressed against the temple of my head. fear flustered in my stomach, at this moment i knew i was going to die.
