I held my apartment door open with one hand, standing out in the building’s hallway in just my socks. Nialler was obviously still not talking to me, but he was downstairs saying goodbye to his parents before their trip. I blankly looked down the corridor, not amused in the slightest.

Gunner and Mick were already arguing. I groaned internally. This was going to be one hell of a fucking long two weeks if those two insisted on keeping their crap up. I watched as they elbowed one another in the ribs.

“You’re just so immature,” I heard Mick grumble at my brother.

Gunner scoffed and glared at Mick. “As if you can even talk. Who the hell just got suspended for acting like a child?”

“Excuse me, but I beg to differ,” Mick answered. “Last time I checked, actually getting laid wasn’t something children did.”

“Oh shut up!”

“You’re only bitter because you’re still single. Not even the ugliest chick in the city would have sex with you, you mongrel.”

“Fuck you!” Gunner yelled, before dropping his duffel bags on the carpet.

He placed his hands roughly on Mick’s shoulders and shoved him back into the wall. Mick growled and quickly pushed himself back onto his feet. He retaliated by grabbing Gunner’s right shoulder and pushing him to the side.

By this time, I was beyond bored. Those two were driving me nuts and they haven’t even gotten inside my place yet. I cleared my throat right as those idiots grabbed onto each other and started wrestling in the hall. They broke apart and glared after me.

“Alright, pick up your things,” I barked.

Mick and Gunner did as I said. I could tell neither of them were happy about it. Mick started to walk towards me and then Gunner tripped him. Mick whirled around swung his arm, but my brother ducked down with a giant smirk on his face.

“Knock it off!” I yelled. “Nobody has time for this. We have neighbours, and you will be respectful while you’re here.”

Gunner and Mick got closer to me, walking at least three feet apart from each other. I figured that was for the best, though, because I swear if they started to fight one more time, they could find somewhere else to stay while our parents were in Africa.

Just as they were going to go through the doorway, I put my arm across it, so they couldn’t go inside. Mick glared at me but didn’t say anything.

“Do you boys understand me?” They both nodded. I could tell they were silently fuming about having to see each other. “You better. I am not in the mood, and I will not tolerate any of your bullshit. That goes for you too, Gunner. I saw that little stunt you just pulled. Do it again, and you’re out of here.”

I knew Gunner was about to argue, so I sent him a cold look. He shut his mouth and looked away. I was glad that he could tell how serious I was. I really wasn’t in a good mood. Everything was going wrong with Nialler and me and that was enough. Our two bonehead little brothers were not going to make it worse if I could help it.

I stepped back and let them through just as I saw Nialler step out of the elevator at the far end of the hall. I sighed and walked in after my brother. Surprisingly, he and Mick were being quiet and staying away from each other.

“You can drop your things in the living room,” I said. We went inside and I looked around. The bed was pulled out from the couch. “We’ve only got this one bed. So you can either quit being pansies and share it, or take turns.”

“Which means one of you will have to sleep either on the recliner chair or the floor,” a new voice said.

I looked over my shoulder and saw Nialler walk up to me. He pulled off his jacket and looked at me for a second. I was pleasantly shocked that he actually acknowledged me and I tried to smile, but he already looked away.
