Regrets

Aljaz's POV.

I drove back to my house kicking myself for shouting at Janette the way I did. I really didn't mean to hurt her outside the university, all I'm trying to do is protect her. When I got home, I messaged Giovanni and AJ and asked them to come over. Ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door and I answered it with tears in my eyes.

"Aljaz what's wrong?" AJ asked.

"I have something to tell you guys. Come in and I'll tell you what's going on."

"Right mate, what happened?" Giovanni asked sitting down.

"I got a phone call from the police this morning, my Mum and Dad escaped from prison last night and I'm scared that they are going to try and hurt Janette when I'm not there to protect her."

"What? How did they manage to escape? Surely they should've been under better security?" Giovanni said.

"I don't know how they managed it, all I know is they are god knows where looking for Janette!"

"Don't worry mate, they aren't going to find her. Surely the police are out looking for them."

"Well they've told me to be on high alert incase they try to contact me, but as soon as they do I'll be phoning them. I have something else to tell you..."

"What's that?"

"Before Janette got out of my car when I dropped her off at Uni, I hurt her... and I feel really bad!"

"What did you do to her?! You can't take anything out on her Aljaz! This isn't her fault!" AJ shouted.

"Woah, calm down mate! I'm sure it was nothing major! What happened Aljaz?"

"I grabbed her arm a little too hard and she said I hurt her..."

"So you didn't physically hit her or anything?"

"No, no of course not! I'd never hit my Bučka! I'd never want to do anything to hurt her! That's why I feel so bad about it!"

"As long as you didn't hit her, because that isn't going to make you feel better!"

"No I'd never hit her! I love her too much!"

"So what do you want us to do?"

"Well I have to pick Janette up at four, but in the meantime, we are going to drive around town looking for them, they're my Mum and Dad, I should be able to easily spot them!"

"Right let's go! I'm with you mate! They aren't going to get away with this."

We all got into my car and drove all the way to the other side of town, stopping at my old house on the way, I had moved out after they were arrested as I didn't want to be reminded about everything. My phone started ringing, it was Janette. I pulled over and picked up.

"Hey Bučka! Are you okay?"

"Hi Aljaz! Just checking in. I finally told someone about what happened."

"Yeah? Who did you tell?"

"I told Mrs Gilbert. I felt she had a right to know, just incase I had a breakdown in class you know?"

"That's fine. How did she take it?"

"She couldn't believe that I had gone through something like that and that I kept it a secret for so long. She says if I ever need to talk to anyone, she's here for me."

"Aww that's good!"

"So what are you up to just now? It sounds like you're outside."

"Yeah Giovanni, AJ and I are out looking for my parents. I figured if the police aren't going to do anything, I might as well go and look for them myself."

"Please don't do anything dangerous Al! If you do see them, phone the police straight away! Don't confront them. You know what they're capable of."

"I plan to confront them Janette! They have to face what they've done! I'm not going to let them get away with this!"

"And what if they hurt you too? I won't let that happen! Not when I'm not there to protect you. Come and pick me up! I'm coming with you guys!"

"No Janette! You can't come! If you're there and we do find them, they'll try and hurt you again. I won't let that happen!"

"Mrs Gilbert has said that I can go home if I want I don't have to stay here, and to be honest Mr Fraser is pissing me off today! He's being extra harsh on me when he knows I'm having a shit day!"

"Wow Janette! I've never heard you swear that much!" Giovanni said laughing.

"That's because you've never seen me pissed off before!" Janette replied.

"You stay at Uni Janette and I'll come and get you at four. I don't want this getting in the way of your studies."

"Fine just keep me updated! Love you Bučko!"

"Love you Bučka!"

"Aww you guys are adorable! When's the baby due then?" AJ said laughing.

"Shut up AJ!" I shouted jokingly hitting him.
