Joey woke up with a groan, arm flipping up to cover her eyes from the bright sun. Taking a few minutes to adjust to the bright light before she opened her eyes properly. Her blue eyes squinted in confusion at her current location.
Why the fuck am I in a tree? That was the first thought which came to the Avengers mind as her eyes surveyed the landscape.
Her large feathered appendages were wrapped around her like a cocoon. She raked a hand through her blonde hair and slowly her brows furrowed as she pulled a few leaves and twigs from her golden hair. Huffing she pushed herself off the tree trunk and her boots crackled twigs and leaves under her feet as the blonde dropped to the floor. After walking for a while, wings dragging behind her and disturbing the tropical forest ground, she reached the village where she had been for the past two weeks.
It was one of the only places in Tristan da Cunha which had working cell service and television, not that she minded because getting away from the world for a few weeks was just such a relief. This island quickly became her safe space. Tristan da Cunha, is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean, about midway between southern Africa and South America and it became Joey's favourite place to visit.
The population was so small that Joey had quickly become familiar with most of them; after all, there's only 270 people in population. The Island had remarkable environments and wildlife that it seemed like the perfect getaway, reachable to most people only by boat or the occasional sea plane. Joey loved playing with the kids, drinking with the adults even if she couldn't get drunk and flying in such an open space.
The twenty six year old even becoming so comfortable around the other people that she didn't bother covering up her wings. The children on the island also loved to play with them and pet them, sometime it could be annoying but most of the time it was sweet to find small, innocent children find such joy in a part of herself she hated for so long.
After ten minutes of walking she finally approached the building she was looking for. Billy's bar and grill. By far one of the best places on the island, twenty-four hour alcohol and food, ran by one of the kindest men Joey had ever met. Bill was a man in his late sixty's and had been running the bar since his dad passed it down to him when he decided to move to South America.
"Hey Angel!" Billy's voice filled her ears as she walked towards the bar, a smile on her face as she sat down on the stool, "The usual?" Joey's usual consisted of a cheeseburger with fries and a beer on the side. Billy also insisted on calling her Angel because of the wings. How original, was Joey's first thought when she first met the man but now it became a term of endearment she treasured each time she met the man.
Joey nodded and Billy busied himself behind the bar, "Anything good on today?" Joey gestured towards the large flatscreen which sat in the corner of the bar, mostly people came to watch the sports games since Billy had like, every single channel. But the man was smart and people could only watch the game if they ordered something first.
