Joey flew faster than expected, not bothering to rest and flew on a straight course of direction towards the US. Arriving in Washington D.C she landed quickly on the roof looking around the air base.
"They should really have better security." Joey muttered to herself as she eyed the planes and people walking around in army uniform, "I mean, you'd think that it being a military base they'd have better air sensors or at least defences." Watching the base the blonde spotted who she was looking for and quickly flew down to them into the building.
"Me and you," Joey gestured between her and Sam, "we need to talk." Joey had had a lot of time to think whilst she flew. Steve gave that shield to Sam, he was supposed to be the next Captain America, the legacy was passed onto him. Not some fraud running around in tights pretending he was Steve Rodgers. But what hurt her the most, she didn't even know he gave up the shield in the first place.
"Good to see you too, Joey." Sam rolled his eyes slightly and continued to walk towards her with Bucky. Joey and Bucky nodded at each other, mutual respect being shared. They had only met a few times and never too much was said between them. First was Joey fighting for him and Steve against the other Avengers, her ending up in prison for it. Next was seeing him for the fight in Wakanda, where they briefly chatted and fought side by side.
Then the blip happened and he was gone before they actually knew each other. The last time was saying goodbye to Steve. He remembered how sad the blondes were to separate, Steve even looked reluctant to leave the young adult but after a tearful goodbye he went back to be with Peggy. Where he belonged.
Joey didn't stick around much after that and neither did Bucky. He sent her the occasional text which she sometimes responded to but they never went out of their way. Perhaps now they would get to know each other.
"You had no right to give up the shield, Sam." Joey spoke sternly as she crossed her arms, wings folding behind her back.
Bucky nodded in appreciation, "Thank you, exactly what I was saying."
"Hey, this is what you're not gonna do. You're not gonna come here in your overextended life and tell me about my rights," Sam pointed to Bucky and then turned to Joey who stood next to the metal armed man, "and you left. Disappeared to a freakin' island in the South Pacific not letting me know if you were okay. It's over guys. Besides, I have bigger things to deal with now." Sam gestured to the plane not far from them and Joey only then noticed he was carrying a duffle bag.
"What could be bigger than this?" Bucky sounded so defeated, it bothered Joey that she felt the same way.
Sam promptly pulled out his phone, showing an image of a person in a mask to Bucky and Joey, "This guy. His connections with rebel organisations all over Eastern and Central Europe, and he's strong. Too strong."
"And?" Joey kept quiet as she thought about his words.
"Well, he's been connected to this online group called the Flag Smashers. Now, Redwing traced them to a building somewhere outside of Munich. So that's where I'm going." Sam started to walk away but both Bucky and Joey followed him. Joey giving a glare to an agent who stared at her wings too long.
