Sofia's POV:

I remember it every time I see my brother.

He looks so sad, he's alone, with mud on his face and ripped jeans and shirts, working, putting in a post, or repairing the fence, or washing the pigs, or sheering sheep.

After my parents died he raised me. I don't know how he did it, he's never been the legal age to be a guardian, not even now. He will be in two months though, he's nearing 18.

I don't know how he did it when he was six and left orphaned in a small town just outside New York City.

He had let me know from as young as I remember that we didn't have parents, I wasn't ready and I didn't ask why until three years ago. I was ten then, him 15.

He had let me know about the whole werewolf thing for a long while. He was required to by the pack. He told me about how mom was a wolf, her fur was pure silver. And dad was her 'mate' and he was human, and how he, my brother, himself was a human, but had no way to know if I was or not.

So he drove me across the road to the pack area.

We drove in silence, the old pickup truck making all the noise. It was just us. "Where are we going, Jack?" I had asked, I was only eight.

"To visit our pack, some friends and family of ours. They're werewolves, like mom." He replied. I nodded and kept quiet. We pulled up to a gate and my brother Jackson rolled down his window and pressed a button on the keypad, and then four more. It beeped and the gate opened, and we drove with fence on both sides while the gate closed behind us for four or five yards, and we came along another gate. This time Jackson got out, and he was greeted by a man with a visible pistol in his belt. I rolled down my window. That man was the only man I saw, but a few of what I thought were big dogs were at the gate. I could see more eyes from the shadows of the woods.

"Who comes and how does he know the gate code, and explain your type." said the man, in a very military, monotone voice.

"Jackson M. Keller, my mother is Jane Johanna Matte, I belong to this Autumn Frost Pack though lineage, human." Jackson replied in his softer tone. "I am here on appointment by Alpha Keegan. My sister is in the truck, same story, unknown species."

The man paused, he appeared to be thinking. "Alpha Keegan confirms." The man stated plainly. I wonder at the time how he knew that. Jack got back in the cab and the gate in front of us opened. It was only a short drive until we arrived at a huge house. It was about at big around as a normal house, maybe a tad larger, but it was very tall, probably four or five stories. There were little outbuildings all around that looked like normal houses, just a little smaller.

"Jack, where is this? What is it?" I asked in awe, staring out the window. It was beautiful, completely surrounded by trees.

"Pack house. This is where most wolves of the pack live," my brother replied. Wolves and humans were all over, playing. There were a lot of them.

The alpha met us. I could sense the power coming off him, but he looked very nice. I clung onto Jack's arm, I was scared.

"I'm Alpha Keegan. Hello," Said the alpha. I nodded, feeling omega.

"I'm Jackson Keller, and this is my little sister Sofia, she is eight. This is the girl who's the reason for this." Jackson smiled as he talked. Alpha Keegan laughed. I had no idea what was so funny.

"This is my son, Elliott. He is 10." The patted his son on the head, he was only a little bit taller than me, maybe an inch. I didn't reply to the smile he flashed at me. I was scared. We went to a quiet room, it was fairly dim as well. When we arrived there Alpha Keegan dismissed Elliott.

"Jack, what are we doing.? I wanna go home." I said, making a point for it to be loud enough for the alpha to hear. "Sofie, it's okay. Go with Alpha Keegan." he replied, I then realized that Alpha Keegan was holding out his had to me.

"No. I wanna go! Let's go home. I wanna go home!" I yelled. I was really upset, a tear was already coming down my cheek."No. It will be over in a moment and you better behave. The better you are, the quicker we go." Jack said sternly. I gulped and tried to calm my breathing. I told my brother ok, and took the firm hand of Alpha Keegan. We walked into a darker room.

"Sofia, I want you to tell me if you hear anything." the alpha said. I nodded and gulped, and wondered if he could see my nod in the dark. Suddenly something was in my head, it sounded like feedback from a microphone held too close to a speaker. It pulsed in my head and made it hurt. I started to cry, and it got worse, and I let out full on sob, and the feedback sound stopped, the pounding still there. 'Sofia...Sofia...Sofia..Sofia..Sofie. Sofie. Sofie, Sofie, Sofie Sofie Sofie Sofie Sofie Sofie Sofie.' the voice was echoing in my head, it sounded like someone was talking to me. I spun around, but no one was in the room but Alpha Keegan, and he had his mouth closed. But it sounded like his voice.

"Hear something?" He said, and the pounding and voice stopped. "Someone was calling my name, Sofia slowly and then it got quicker and said Sofie."

The alpha nodded, and checked something on his clipboard, which I just noticed he had.

We did more tests with my hearing and sight and smell. Alpha Keegan came out and spoke to my brother, who then came and hugged me. "You're a wolf." He said plainly.

On the ride home I had asked why every one else in the back had light skin and we didn't. Jackson told me that mom's mom had come from Mexico and joined this pack.

This is what I thought about as I walked to the pack house. Jackson and I had gotten into a fight, and I just wanted to have some space.
