Diluc woke up from the noise coming from outside. He sighed, a trail of tears that dried through his sleep was still evident on his cheeks. If it weren't from the commotion outside, he wouldn't have found the strength to get up. Not when the very reason he kept pressing on is now gone, and probably not returning anymore.
The noise seem to be coming from the housemaids who were crying. Diluc hurriedly slipped on his working clothes, prepared to face anyone who dare trouble his people.
When he had finally gone outside the manor, he was perplexed to see all the workers peering at one place.
"What's this commotion?" His voice thundered that the workers immediately gone quiet.
"The problem, master Diluc, is that you left your wife alone in Liyue."
Diluc dropped both his jaw and the claymor in his hand. He was never the type to show his soft side when the maids and the workers are around. However, that moment, he broke down into nonstop sobs as he walked closer to his wife with his trembling legs.
His wife gave him a wide smile, as she too walked closer to meet him in between.
Sobbing uncontrollably, he finally gathered the strength to run towards her and attack her with the tightest embrace. He collapsed into her shoulder blade, caressing her back as he continued to cry.
"I should scold you you know, how could you think that I was gonna choose him just because I turned into an Adepti?" Anthea whispered, rubbing her husband's back.
"Heavens, Thea, I thought I'll never see you again. I'm so happy.. I missed you so much that I feel like my heart is going to burst right now." He told his wife, embracing her even tighter as he showered kisses on her cheeks and neck.
"I'm sorry if I made you worry."
"No, I'm sorry for leaving you there. I thought I was making the right decision for you.. "
"I know love.. I know..."
"I'm really sorry, I was losing my mind when I heard you retrieved the memories of your previous life.. I was so scared that you'd choose him.. "
He embraced even tighter.
"You've always been like this Diluc.. Just what am I gonna do with you?"
And tighter.
"I'm sorry.. "
And tighter.
"I've told you this years before and I'll tell you this once again, and I will tell it to you too in the future..
I'm yours Diluc.. "
"Heavens, Thea! I love you so much that I can't contain it." Diluc whispered, pressing his forehead to hers.
"I love you too.. so much that my heart aches whenever I can't express this feeling enough.."
Even after the couple have settled, Diluc never left Anthea's side. He clung to her all day, wherever she goes, there he also was, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Diluc was quiet all afternoon until the evening struck. Instead of uttering a word, he took every moment to nuzzle his face on his wife's shoulder blade.
At night, he fell asleep on his wife's lap as she brushed his fiery hair with her delicate fingers. As he was sound asleep, the Yaksha quietly entered their room through the window.
"Xiao.. He looks so happy.. He wouldn't event let go of my hand.. " She whispered, smiling at her husband's peaceful face, yet at the same time tears were falling from the corner of her eyes.
"You haven't told him about the curse yet?"
"How can I shatter his heart just like that?" She broke down, trailing her fingers to his face.
"Then you would endure once again? You're going back to how you were before?"
"I don't want him to suffer any longer..."
"So you'll allow yourself to suffer once again? I can't allow this mother." Xiao gritted his teeth.
That day they were supposed to come back, Anthea and Xiao discovered a cruel revelation. With the return of her ethereal from, came also the return of the curse casted upon her by the angered gods whom Rex Lapiz defeated.
She could live for fifteen to twenty more years or perhaps even longer if she could endure, but with every second of her life, the pain will seep through her bone and throughout her entire body.
"I'm leaving... I'm going to find a cure no matter what." Xiao said with a trembling voice, swiftly disappearing through the wind.
Anthea was left alone with her sleeping husband, thinking about how naive she was for thinking happiness would come that easily.
The Nymph of Teyvat was born with the ability to help every creature find happiness,
But never to find hers.
