There is Mathew on the stretcher.
"Mathew!" I screamed and ran to the ambulance. He lay there blood trickling down his forehead, his helmet barely on his head. I pull the helmet off, the tears pouring down my face.
"What happened?" I get into the back of the ambulance, his jersey already grass stained 15 minutes in the game.
"Number four landed on Horns head. 183 pounds landed on his skull. Possibly internally bleeding. Defiantly skull fracture." the hospital man said abruptly.
"Mathew." I cried and put my hand in his. At the hospital we rushed him into the ER.
His room stunk of cleaner. His TV must have been older than us. They did several surgeries on his head. the hospital man was right, internal bleeding. They shaved his sweet soft hair and his bright eyes were always closed. He was in a coma. Damn me. I should have turned my phone up. If I was there would it have changed?
Mathew was off and on. Somedays were better than others. This day he would squeeze his hand, the next her wouldn't even move. It was horrible.
"Hey Anna." Mrs. Horn came in, her face red, she was crying.
"Hey ma." I gave her a hug. I called her mom. She was, Matt and I would get married.
"How is he today?" She gave a half hearted grin and sat next to me, by the bedside.
"Doc said he probably won't come back conscious," I looked down, "but he will. I just know it."
"What makes you say that?" she looked at me.
"He has so much to come back for. You and dad and Varsity and college."
"And you..." Mom rubbed my back, as we stared at Matt, his motionless body looked so limp and fragile. His bedside table filled with cheesy 'Get Well Soon' balloons and stuffed animals. I spent my nights here. Screw school, my boyfriend could die at any second, he needs me more.

It's been two weeks with him in and out of surgery and I visit him everyday. I'm wearing my hoodie and paint stained sweats. My hair in a bun and a no makeup face. I pick up my weak feet and climb to his bed. I get onto my knees.
"Lord please bring Mathew back." I pray with tears pouring down my face. I climb up to his neat bed, and curl up real close to him. I moved my hands around the wires and placed mine in his. He was so cold. My eyes weary, I feel his heartbeat increase.
His heartbeat!!
"Doctor!! DOCTOR!!" I scream.

For people who don't know, when a person is in a coma, their heartbeat slows down dramatically. So when Anna felt Mathews heartbeat increase, something was happening.
