We laid there all evening. Every once in a while he would tremble, and his palms got sweaty. I rubbed his head, and kissed his finger tips. He had no reaction as he used too, he would usually hug me tighter, but he didn't.
Our love was like a sleeping child, it's just sleeping, it's not dead.
I turn over and slowly move my hand over his scars.
"Mathew, babe, it's time to go home." I whispered. He didn't move.
"Mathew?" I said louder. No response.
"Mathew!" I shook him.
"Dad!" I yelled. He came rushing in.
"Call 911 Annabelle. Now!" Dad started CPR on him hoping to get a reaction.
"Ambulance Is On It's Way." I heard on the phone before I hung up the phone.
"Babe. Mathew?" My face rushed with tears. I heard the door slam open and the doctors rush in.
"Where is he?" They said. I pointed to him. They moved him onto the stretcher.
Wow. Second time I've seen my boyfriend on a stretcher. I tremble at the thought of that day. Just 8 weeks ago.
I picked up my phone and helped dad into his car.
"Oh my gosh dad," I rub my eyes with my palms, "fuck."
"It's going to be okay baby girl." we drove down the dark highway.
"What if it's not dad? I'm already losing him so much, he's much more than a boyfriend, he's my best friend and my future husband." I managed to say between sobs.
"We just need to pray for him. That's all we can do." Dad said calmly. As we arrive to the hospital 12 minutes later I run in. I follow the paramedics into a room and stop to watch them put on their gloves and masks. I stood and hugged my dad, bawling.
"I'll show you to the waiting room if you would like?" a short nurse came out from the back room. Dad nodded and brought me to lay down in there. We were there for over three hours, with no news from the doctor.
"Dad?" My voice quivered.
"Yes pumpkin?" He rubbed his eyes.
"I wish it was the way it used to be."
Dad nodded and laid his head back, "Me too."
