The past is the past, today is today, these things I can't control.
The week with Aunt Marcy came to an end, and her work resumed.
I was to start my internship at her company the week after, so my freedom hadn't ended yet.
Ricky texted me the night before Monday, after a week of me checking my phone and waiting. I was starting to think he'd forgettn his promise.
Aunt Marcy and me were eating ice cream and watching a movie. It was late, and my Aunt was already yawning and checking the time. "I better get to bed. Work tomorrow and all. Ugh, I'm gonna miss not having to say those words." She heaved a bitter sigh.
I sighed too. "We can finish this tomorrow." I paused the movie, (the old Annie.)
I was itching to check my text, hoping it wasn't my Moab friends again. Not that I didn't love hearing from Blossom and Mindy, and the others, but it had been close to a week since that night I'd hung out with Ricky and the band, and I was craving local friendship with a passion. I would have settled just fine, (more than fine) flying Blossom or Mindy out, but they both had class and work! It was so very frustrating.
I looked down at my phone. My heart did a leep when I saw it was from Ricky, finally.
Ricky: Hey Lauren. Me and the boys are going to the beach tomorrow after work. Gabs can't make it though. She's got a doctor's appointment. Let me know if you're down.
I quickly replied.
Sure, sounds fun!
He replied again, do you need a ride?
I realized I wouldn't have access to a car... Man, I needed to get my own! Of course, I needed money first, aka, an actual job.
Please? That would be awesome!
I smiled, after we'd finished talking.
When I reached my room not to much later, sleep was far from my mind. I was too excited.
I rumaged through the closet, all my clothes now, beyond stylish.
Still, I couldn't decide what I'd wear the following day. Obviously, it was the beach, so I'd wear a swimsuit and a summer dress. The problem was, I had like five perfect ones of both, and making this choice was agony.
Blue made my skin look amazing, but yellow made my dark hair look great...
I sighed, and went to my bed, to lie there and think about it. I'd decide in the morning. I couldn't wait though. I wasn't meant to be without a social life for long.
The next morning came, and with it an overwhelming giddiness. I'd made actual friends, and they wanted to hang out with me!
This wasn't such a feat, really, since making fast friends had always been my specialty, but still. I was in a new place, and new pals were important. Plus, it helped that they are all rediculoulsy cute. Especially Ricky... But I couldn't think about him! So, so off limits...
I dressed into my bright red bikin, and put a yellow flowery dress on over it.
I wore sandles, and packed a bag with all my regular clothes, in case I needed to change.
When I walked down stairs, Aunt Marcy stood in the kitchen, dressed in the hottest badass woman suit known to man. She was making oatmeal up at the stove, and arguing with someone on the phone.
"No, no I can't be there an hour early, Lennet. Okay, okay I'm hanging up now. See you at nine!"
She hung up. "Hey girly. Why you all dressed up?"
