This is like an introduction chapter about Yuzu's past and all that she went trough. So it'll be 90% about her past and her suffering, and at the end is where the starts for real :)
The Okogi family were as cheerful as they could be. Ume, Haruki (Yuzu's father) and Yuzu (11 years old) were a typical family filled with happiness and everyday laughter.
That was until they suffered an accident when they were heading to Yuzu's school together, for her school's preformance. Yuzu's father, Haruki, died at the scene while Yuzu suffered serious injuries, Ume did suffer some injuries but not anything too serious. Yuzu had to undergo surgery, to pay off the surgery Ume had to sell a lot of their stuff and started working so hard that she fainted twice.
Yuzu's surgery went well, but she was in an induced coma because of her injuries. This effected Ume mentally and she started blaming Yuzu for all that's happened. At first it was just in her head and she felt it was wrong that she blamed the poor child, but the thoughts didn't stop. After couple of days Yuzu woke up and spent 3 weeks in the hospital before they discharged her.
After coming home, Yuzu saw that her father was nowhere to be found. She knew why but wanted to ask her mother to confirm her thoughts, but after looking at her mother she saw the sorry state she was in and decided to keep it to herself.
After a year Ume started drinking, not too heavily, but enough to lash out on the poor child. Yuzu frightened, locked herself in her room while Ume banged on the the door yelling "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! IT'S...It's, your fault he's dead!", and she burst into tears. Yuzu hearing all this coming from her mother who used to be so loving and kind, started to tear up quietly and cried the whole night.
The next morning Yuzu came out her room she saw Ume sleeping on the floor next to her room with a bottle of alcohol in her hand. She shaked her mother to wake her up, the mother groaned "Mmmm, what do you want now...leave me be.". Yuzu continued to wake her up "Mom. Mom, please go to your bed, you'll get sick if you sleep here.", the mother replied "I don't want to go there...It's...empty.", Yuzu then said "Mom, you can sleep in my bed" the mother then opened her eyes and started getting up slowly. She stumbled on her way into Yuzu's room and plopped on her bed, she instantly fell asleep. Yuzu smiled with tears forming up in her eyes, she layed next to her mother and hugged her tightly while saying "I'm sorry."
4 years passed painfully slowly for Yuzu. During those 4 years Ume started drinking more heavily than before to the point where she started abusing Yuzu mentally and physically. Still blaming the innocent girl, Ume didn't think it was wrong anymore. She was so messed up in the head from all the work and all the grief and all the drinking that she wanted to vent her anger on someone or something and chose to vent it on Yuzu. Of course Yuzu was effected as well, maybe she was in a worse state than her mother. It was the 3rd year after the accident, she was getting abused, she was just 14 so she didn't know any better, so she started cutting herself to take her mind off the pain that her mother gave her. Her thoughts got too dark to the point where she thought of jumping off the building every day. She was in constant pain and couldn't do anything about it because she was afraid that if she reported her mother, they would take her away and she would never see her again. Of course the girl loved her mother still, she was still her only family left. She thought that if she just endured it would get better. It didn't.
