CHAPTER ELEVEN | AMARA POV
With his fingers tightly laced with mine, Ezra tugs me through the corridor. I try to ignore the gazes and whispers of the bystanders we pass. He pays no mind, with a face drawn in stone cold seriosity, I gulp down the thought of what I'm to face.
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion when we take a turn into an unfamiliar section. I part my lips to speak to which he says a low don't before I could get a word out.
He stops promptly before the door, thrusts it open and pulls me inside. I stumble slightly but catch myself.
My mouth drops at the sight of the room. The ceiling has a single sky light that overlooks the night sky, and large floor to ceiling windows show the willowy treetops of the surrounding forrest. The room itself is shaded black, with a contrasting wood floor. Minimalist decor with a king size bed that lay in the middle of the room, a desk area to the left and large couch to the right.
"Do you aim to punish me?" His voice deathly vexed.
At this I spun on my heel to face him. He meets my gaze, a dark look washed over him.
"What do you mean?" I ask, crossing my arms over my chest.
He lets out a scoff, and begins to unbutton the cuffs of his shirt. "Ever since you got here, you've done everything in your power to do the opposite of what I ask."
I raise my brow at this, with a light laugh. "Am I a pet? Here to be obedient to you with no explanation necessary?"
He grits his teeth at this and shook his head, "That's not what I meant. You're not a pet."
"Then what am I to you? A servant?" I mock, bitterly.
He stays silent at this, I can feel the anger radiating off of him in waves. Suddenly, in three long strides he stands before me.
"You know who you are." He responds, lowly.
I raise my view to his, a hint of amber peaks through the honey color of his eyes. "Is that what a soulmate is to you?" I ask, with narrowed eyes.
At this he snaps, harshly pulling down the right strap of my dress. Across the right side of my chest ran a scratch. Not fatal, just deep enough to draw blood. In the heat of the adrenaline I almost forgot about the pain.
He swallows hard at the sight, with a clenched jaw he finally breaks the silence. "That would have never happened if you listened to me. My only motive in everything I asked of you was to keep you away from harm."
I purse my lips tightly together at this. My thoughts racing miles against my heart.
He brings his hand up and lightly glides a finger over the wound, eliciting a shiver from me. Just as he did earlier with my wrists, The earlier ache from my wound, began to dissipate.
"What are you doing?" I mutter.
"I'm absorbing your pain." He answers under his breath.
I shook my head, unable to look him in the eyes now. "Why are you going out of your way to protect me? Out of blind faith that I'm the one?"
His hand raises to brush the side of my cheek, I can feel his gaze intently on me. "If you knew that your soulmate were standing right in front of you, and that no one would make your heart beat the same way, you would understand why I'm fighting as hard as I am to keep you."
My face flushes as I digest his words. The silence between us is thick enough to cut. "How could that be possible?" I ask softly.
"Is it so bad to believe that I'm meant for you?" He questions, desolately.
My lips part to speak but I can't find the words. He steps away from me just as I look up.
"I can't change what I am, Amara. You may want to run from the circumstances but you will always- inevitably find your way back to me."
Ezra begins to unbutton his shirt, as he made his way to the door to the right of his room; what I presume to be the bathroom.
"Don't bother trying to leave. " He warns, flatly as he shut the door behind him.
I thought this place felt lonely before, but as soon as the bathroom door clicked shut a new level of lonely cloaked my shoulders. This place doesn't feel like home. There's nothing here that I could call mine.

I lay in the bed for what feels like eternity now attempting to fall asleep. Ezra's soft snores used to fill the room rather than the silence that currently made it's home here.
The pressure on my abdomen has me groaning in annoyance, I have to pee. Just as I was getting comfortable in my position.
I push the comforters off of me, and swing my legs off the bed. The room is cascaded into darkness, save for the moon light that trickles through the sky light. I take a moment to firmly plant my feet on the ground and for my eyes to adjust to the darkness.
I find the door to the bathroom, casually ajar and quietly attempt to make my way towards it.
The window curtains sway softly from the breeze, I shiver from the cool night air that caressed my bare legs.
It's so quiet.
Curiosity gets the best of me. I look towards the couch at Ezra's sleeping figure. His eyebrows are knitted together, eyes screw shut with a rapid pace beneath them.
Is he having a nightmare?
I stop in my tracks to observe further. His arms are crossed over his chest, as it rises and falls a little more quickly than normal. A feeling of unease rouses the pit of my stomach.
I stoop onto my knees, until I am before his face. Absentmindedly I brush a strand from his face and promptly, his expression calms.
My heart tightens looking at him, leaving now while he's asleep would be easier. The thought is fleeting, but the feeling weighs on my shoulders.
It wouldn't be. His voice thunders into my head, I let out a startled yelp, and pull my hand back.
